13:15 – Manila Scouse
MANILA SCOUSE stepped up on his debut form when second at Chester last time, staying on well to be beaten just a head. That form sets the standard in this line-up and the step up to six furlongs is likely to unlock more improvement. He clearly goes well in testing conditions and this looks a good opportunity for him to get off the mark at the third attempt.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
13:45 – Fiftyshadesaresdev
FIFTYSHADESARESDEV caught the eye when fourth on his nursery debut here two weeks ago, looking ready for a step back up in trip. He was outpaced in the early stages but finished strongly to pass the post less than two lengths behind the winner. With further progress on the cards now back up to a mile, he is well worth another chance to prove himself on a good mark.
14:20 – Westover
WESTOVER shaped well when second in a minor event at Newbury last month. He still looked far from the finished article, but the way he finished his race was encouraging, leaving the impression he may yet have more to offer. Ralph Beckett is seeking his third success in this listed race since 2015 and Westover has the strongest form credentials in this year’s renewal, so another bold bid is expected with Ryan Moore booked.
14:55 – Here And Now
HERE AND NOW is a useful performer on his day and the way he shaped when third in a minor event at Salisbury last month was highly promising. That was his first start for 11 months and it was a performance which suggests he retains all his ability. He is entitled to strip fitter this time and the conditions of this race identify him as very much the one to beat at the weights.
15:30 – Sudona
SUDONA showed a good attitude to regain the winning thread at Beverley last month, digging deep close home to land the spoils by a head. That form is working out well, with the second, fifth and sixth all winning races subsequently. A previous winner over this course and distance, Sudona remains to keep on the right side from just a 3 lb higher mark than last time.
16:05 – After John
AFTER JOHN has struggled for form in 2021, but his last two starts have been a bit more like it. He was beaten less than two lengths when fourth on his penultimate outing at Hamilton and it’s worth pointing out that he is now 5 lb lower in the weights than when recording his latest success. He has also won over this course and distance earlier in his career and the application of first-time cheekpieces could give him the edge he needs to resume winning ways.
16:40 – True Blue Moon
TRUE BLUE MOON has been out of sorts since winning at Hamilton in May, but the return to softer going here should be in his favour. Most of these arrive with questions to answer and True Blue Moon is potentially very well handicapped, now 8 lb lower in the weights than when successful at Hamilton. At an attractive price he could be worth chancing, with headgear back on for the first time since he joined this yard.
17:15 – Rayong
RAYONG was strong in the betting and duly returned to form when second over this course and distance last time. He was beaten just half a length and possibly should have finished closer still having been hampered inside the final furlong. He clearly goes well under these conditions (won here in July 2020) and it will be disappointing if he can’t play a leading role having gone up just 1 lb in the weights for his latest effort.
