13:20 Bint Elmalek

Philosophy evidently had a bit of a reputation before her debut back in July so it will be interesting to see if she attracts support again but the one to beat on racecourse evidence is BINT ELMALEK, who shaped nicely for third at Newmarket three weeks ago. Course winner My Bonnie Lassie looks the chief threat on form.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

13:55 Imperial Eight

Cover Name will be hard to beat if leaving her latest disappointing run over 6f behind her. Naughty Ana has to prove her stamina for 7f and this might be the day that IMPERIAL EIGHT sheds her maiden tag.

14:30 One Hart

Although perhaps not one for maximum faith given his mixed record of late, ONE HART ran well when second at Ayr last week and the handicapper has taken a chance leaving his mark unchanged, given he came well clear of the third. Shark Two One, who came good last autumn, heads the dangers along with Obee Jo, a C&D winner last time, and Broken Spear.

15:05 Eye Knee

With a very authoritative win over 1m2f last time, and the Gold Cup winners Enzeli and Estimate not so far away in his pedigree, Emiyn has to be of major interest on this second attempt at 1m4f. There is a solid alternative, however, in EYE KNEE who has blossomed over C&D in recent starts and is the only 3yo in this line-up, so could easily be capable of better still.

15:40 Sunday Sovereign

Early speed is often a big help in the sprints around here but with so many of these happiest up front it’s hard to know quite how things will pan out. Militia loves it around here and if he gets it right at the start then he’ll be bang there, while Major Jumbo is handicapped to win and Count D’orsay has won and finished second in this corresponding race in the last two seasons. The talented SUNDAY SOVEREIGN isn’t short of speed himself but he doesn’t have to lead, something he advertised in spades with his Chester win in August. That form suggests he’s a player and being dropped in from a wide draw may not be a disadvantage today.

16:15 Dark Shot

Redrosezorro loves it here but, having hinted at a revival last time, it’s not ideal that he’s stuck out in stall 12 in his bid to win this race for a second time. Captain Jameson can leave a low-key Pontefract run behind him and feature, while Bossipop and Muscika are also seriously considered. DARK SHOT toyed with a big field at Nottingham on Wednesday, though, and he can cope with the extra furlong and stronger opposition and defy his 4lb penalty.

16:50 Bollin Neil (NAP)

Last year’s winner BOLLIN NEIL (nap) has finished first or second on his four visits to Catterick this year and that course form is a persuasive factor. He gets the nod ahead of Novis Adventus, who was an encouraging fourth at Epsom last time out in July and has been dropped a further 4lb. Lord Torranaga and Overthink are others to consider.
