Addeybb

Trainer: William Haggas Jockey: Tom Marquand Age: 7 Weight: 9st 5lbs

Winner of 3 Group 1s in Australia and suited by testing ground when ready winner of this last year. Not seen since runner-up in the Eclipse (neck in front of Mishriff) and rain will increase chance.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Al Aasy

Trainer: William Haggas Jockey: Jim Crowley Age: 4 Weight: 9st 5lbs

Much improved in 2021, landing pair of 1½m Newbury Group 3s in the spring. However, seemingly outbattled next 3 starts and this by far his stiffest examination back down in trip.

Euchen Glen

Trainer: Jim Goldie Jockey: Paul Mulrennan Age: 8 Weight: 9st 5lbs

Smart veteran who has been a terrific servant to connections, but even his best form leaves him with plenty to find at this level.

Mishriff

Trainer: John & Thady Gosden Jockey: David Egan Age: 4 Weight: 9st 5lbs

Top-class colt who recorded a third Group 1 when powering away from his rivals in Juddmonte at York. Found Adayar too strong in King George prior to that but fancied to come out on top at this trip.

Adayar

Trainer: Charlie Appleby Jockey: William Buick Age: 3 Weight: 9st 1lbs

Much improved when emphatic winner of Derby and confirmed himself top class when following up in King George, proving too strong for Mishriff close home. Respectable fourth in Arc since. Big shout.

Bolshoi Ballet

Trainer: Aidan O’Brien Jockey: Ryan Moore Age: 3 Weight: 9st 1lbs

Winner of a Grade 1 over this trip at Belmont but that was a weak race for its type and limitations rather exposed either side of that, notably when beaten favourite for the Derby. Up against it.

Dubai Honour

Trainer: William Haggas Jockey: James Doyle Age: 3 Weight: 9st 1lbs

Highly-progressive 3-y-o who’s won his last 3 starts, including when defying a penalty in Group 2 Prix Dollar at Longchamp 2 weeks ago, again coming from off the pace. Worth a shot in a Group 1 now.

Foxes Tales

Trainer: Andrew Balding Jockey: Silvestre De Sousa Age: 3 Weight: 9st 1lbs

Easy winner of a Royal Ascot handicap over C&D and has continued on the upgrade since, landing Group 3 at Haydock before just edged out in similar event at Newbury. Plenty to find here, though.

Mac Swiney

Trainer: J. S. Bolger Jockey: K. J. Manning Age: 3 Weight: 9st 1lbs

Edged out stablemate Poetic Flare in the Irish 2000 Guineas in testing ground at the Curragh but has struggled to repeat that form since. Unlikely to be good enough.

Sealiway

Trainer: Cedric Rossi Jockey: Mickael Barzalona Age: 3 Weight: 9st 1lbs

Sluiced through the mud to land the Grand Criterium as a 2-y-o and back to that sort of form when second in French Derby. Excellent fifth in Arc at Longchamp 2 weeks ago so holds each-way claims.

Timeform Verdict: “MISHRIFF found Adayar too strong when the pair met in the King George at this course back in July, but there must be a good chance the tables will be turned over this shorter trip. There isn’t much between the pair judged on their peak efforts and Mishriff seems to have had the better preparation, arriving here on the back of an emphatic victory at York. Last year’s winner Addeybb can place.”
