Horse Racing tips: Wednesday’s best bets as Murphy & Buick face off at Nottingham
William Buick closed to gap to four on Tuesday and has eight rides to Murphy's six mounts as the title race goes to the wire ahead of Saturday's finale on Champions Day at Ascot.
MEDYAF makes plenty of appeal on paper as a brother to very smart French/German winner up to a mile-and-a-half Quest The Moon and, representing powerful connections, he could be the way to go on debut without the benefit of market clues. Fellow newcomer Duty Bound is also worth a second look. Qitaal and Deauville Legend can do best of those with previous experience.
This could be a warm back-end maiden, with ROCKFIRE just about the pick given his striking middle-distance pedigree. Clear Day and Eldar Eldarov also look the part on paper, while Battani’s opening effort was promising.
VOODOO QUEEN certainly takes the eye on pedigree being by Frankel out of Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Cursory Glance, so she’s taken to make a winning start. Fellow newcomer Peace Offering looks another likely type for John & Thady Gosden, while River of Stars made an encouraging start at Sandown and is expected to improve.
SHABANO boasts a progressive profile and there should still be even more to come from him now stepping back up in trip on nursery debut, so he’s an appealing candidate. Never No Trouble and Bazalgette are others going the right way and are feared most.
Something can’t have been right with LEGENDARY DAY last time. He’s been freshened up since and his overall record suggests he could bounce straight back so he’s fancied to provide Oisin Murphy with a winner as he bids to fend off William Buick’s title challenge. Kolisi and Fairmac, the mount of Buick, could be the pair to give him most to do.
BAY BREEZE met trouble when a strong-finishing third to Josies Kid at York recently and is 9lbs better off at the weights with that rival, so he gets the narrow vote in a tightly-knit nursery. Helvetique was on the up prior to an excusable run at Goodwood last time, so she’s also on the shortlist down in trip.
RAASEL has looked a different proposition since returning from a break and can complete the hat-trick. Natural Path and Hey Mr look the likeliest dangers.
REFUGE has yet to hit top form this season, but there were positives to glean from his latest effort in the Redcar handicap won by High Security. Beaten 2-and-a-quarter lengths into sixth that day, Refuge meets that rival on 6lbs better terms this time and he could be the answer to a wide-open race. Twice Adaay will be a big player if able to bounce back, while Cometh The Man and Aleef are others to consider.
