Lucky 15 tips today: Saturday’s best bets from our top pundits

We’ve gathered Ruby, Matt, Mick and Jason to give us their punchy picks at Newmarket and York today.

York flat racing

It’s a smashing Saturday with racing galore in the UK and Ireland and we’re after one thing… winning horses. Don’t forget the day’s feature is the Cesarewitch Handicap (15:35) at Newmarket and the ITV cameras are there.

So, we’ve asked our star pundits of Matt Chapman, Mick Fitzgerald, Jason Weaver and Ruby Walsh to put their top tips today into a Lucky 15. And thankfully, they’ve obliged us!

Okay, let’s get to the bets…

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

14:02 York – Alotaibi (Ruby Walsh)

I like ALOTAIBI for John and Thady Gosden. He won over 7 furlongs at Newbury back in August and followed that up with a second at Ascot in September. Coming down in trip here will suit him too.

14:37 York – Good Birthday (Matt Chapman)

A handicap here over an extended 1m 2f. GOOD BIRTHDAY might pop up here at a decent price for Andrew Balding and Sylvester de Sousa. Last seen in the Cambridgeshire in 13th place, Good Birthday was a good winner at Doncaster three runs ago off a mark of 91. He’s only 1lb higher here and should at least have each way claims.

15:15 York – Laugh A Minute (Jason Weaver)

An Irish raider from the Aido McGuinness yard, who won the Prix de L’Abbeye last weekend in France.  LAUGH A MINUTE was very unlucky last time and I’m hoping he is able to cope with the quicker nature of the track at York. He will need a little bit of pace on his side to latch onto, won’t mind any dig in the ground and there is no doubting he is well handicapped. What’s not to like?

15:35 Newmarket – Micro Manage (Mick Fitzgerald)

The Cesarewitch is one of the big betting handicaps of the season and jumps trainers have a very good record in this race. It’s no surprise to see Willie Mullins’ M C Muldoon towards the head of the market after his novices hurdle win at Galway and his short head defeat to Reshoun in the Ascot Stakes earlier this summer. He is very versatile ground wise.

Nicky Henderson’s Buzz Is another who catches the eye. He looks fairly handicapped off a Flat mark of 96 and is definitely a player in this contest. You would love him to have had a prep run, so for that reason I’ll go with MC Muldoon’s stablemate MICRO MANAGE, ridden by Irish champion jockey, Colin Keane. He’s got a touch of class, won a conditions race at Galway over 1m 6f and will handle the ground. He can give Willie Mullins his fourth straight win in the Cesarewitch.
