Harbour Storm failed to reward good support here last week, but the return to 7 furlongs could help and he’s on a dangerous mark. Major J, Posh Girl and Crocodile Power all enter calculations, but with WIFF WAFF‘s stamina for 7 furlongs now confirmed he may prove the answer after a good run here two weeks ago.
The three newcomers don’t have a daunting standard to aim at and money for any of them would look significant. Brazilian Beach may return to her Goodwood form now tried in cheekpieces, but she’s not progressing and LIANGEL HOPE looks the answer. He couldn’t quite get to the winner when second at Wolverhampton last month, but it was a pleasing debut and this trip could prompt improvement.
Top of the list is STARRY EYES (NAP), who still looks well treated after being reassessed for her smooth Lingfield win. Recent course and distance scorer Top Class Angel may provide the sternest resistance, but a market move for the unexposed stable switcher Pink Pearl should be heeded and the reliable Widaad is unlikely to be far away.
All things considered, JENSON BENSON did well to make the frame here last time and fingers crossed that he’s a bit more focused on the job this evening. Catch My Breath, though slowly away and never in the hunt here on Thursday, has to be feared on his previous win, while Across The Nile and Nibras Shadow also make the shortlist.
Crimson Sand has a fine record on all-weather and should make another bold bid, while Rock Boy Grey loves it here and Letmelivemylife still has unfinished business as a sprinter. With a few of these happiest on the front end though, this could be set up for NIGEL NOTT and he can gain a deserved success.
Big Impact should be winning races off this mark and this may be the one, but he has got the widest stall to contend with. Tell ‘Em Nowt hinted at better when fifth behind VINCENZO COCCOTTI over course and distance last week, but the selection is reliable when in form and may be able to win again off just 1lb higher.
In a race in which unknown quantities are thin on the ground it may be worth chancing BIG BARD, who ran a good deal better than the distance beaten suggests on last month’s handicap debut. The drop in trip asks a new question of him, but he may be up to the task. Elusif, Twentysharesofgrey, Whistling Sands and First Verse may provide the stiffest resistance.
Recent Newmarket winner GLOBAL ART is 1lb lower than when very nearly winning a division of this 12 months ago so has to be taken seriously, along with The Whipmaster, Desert Emperor and Bay Of Naples, who are feared in that order of preference.
