Friday’s action gets under way here with a novices’ chase over nearly 3m. ASK DILLON is a three-mile point to point winner and looks just the type to make a chaser for Fergal O’Brien and Paddy Brennan. The Pertemps Hurdle Sixth at the Cheltenham Festival was last seen winning at that track and might well have too much stamina for his rivals. He has run in once chase before and fell, but I’m not too fussed about that.
Next up is this Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes for juveniles over 5f. TWILIGHT JET has been tackling good races in the Gimcrack, Champagne and Middle Park over 6f and 7f but it might be this drop to 5f which allows him to grab a decent prize. The Michael O’Callaghan runner has Leigh Roche up and was far from disgraced behind Perfect Power at Newmarket in a Group 1 at Newmarket last time.
Now the Group 3 Oh So Sharp Stakes over youngsters over 7f. GOOD AMERICAN showed plenty of ability on debut at Salisbury and might be the one to beat in an open affair. Trained by Ralph Beckett, Good American made all for the debut win and the second and third have both run well since. She seems to stay well and Frankie Dettori up for a stable which took a big race at Longchamp at the weekend is a plus.
ITV are also at York for this novice stakes for juveniles over 5f. BOND CHAIRMAN has to give 6lb away but will surely take all the beating for Bryan Smart and Graham Lee. His form has slight faded away of late, but a fourth in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot behind Chipotle should be good enough to land this prize. Ground is a small concern.
Now the classy Grade 2 Persian War Novices’ Hurdle over nearly 2m4f. Good ground is always excellent news for a Nicky Henderson runner and sways me towards FIRST STREET under the excellent Nico de Boinville. The son of Golden Horn was beaten in two bumpers but has won both hurdle races and looked good when scoring at Warwick last time.

This is the Group 2 Challenge Stakes over 7f. CHINDIT has been a frustrating horse for much of this season but this gives him a huge chance of a decent prize. The 2000 Guineas fifth has at one time looked as though he will stay 1m2f and at others looked as though he struggles to get a mile. Maybe this 7f will be the answer for Richard Hannon and Pat Dobbs after an all right run in the Celebration Mile when last seen.
Class race in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile over 1m. This won’t take long as INSPIRAL has to be the selection for the Gosdens and Frankie Dettori. The May Hill winner is unbeaten in three starts for Cheveley Park Stud and already looks like a likely winner of next year’s 1000 Guineas. It’s a good renewal but Inspiral is expected to pass the test.
Heritage handicap here over 1m6f. SURREY GOLD goes well with a bit of juice in the ground and must have eachway claims for Hughie Morrison and Sean Levey. He was a decent eighth in the Melrose at this track two runs ago and was not suited to a drop to 1m4f at Newbury last time plugging on from off the pace.
Tough handicap here in the Rowley Cup over 1m4f. SISKANY is lightly raced and open to loads of improvement for Charlie Appleby and William Buick. Stepped up to this trip on his last two starts, the son of Dubawi was fourth at Royal Ascot and second at Goodwood. He’s up the handicap ratings for those defeats but deserves to land a decent prize like this one.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
