13:00 Magnolia State

The filly MAGNOLIA STATE was runner-up to subsequent Canadian Grade 1 winner Wild Beauty on her debut on soft ground at Haydock in May, and good/good to firm going may not have suited the next twice. With conditions in her favour today she is selected ahead of Monsieur Jumbo, who was a close third in a Haydock novice last time out. Beltane is another key player.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

13:30 Firewater

A number of in-form contenders to consider, such as Molinari, Innse Gall and Dr T J Eckleburg. However, with the slow ground in his favour, FIREWATER is taken to return to form and repeat last year’s victory in this race. Course specialist Royal Regent is second choice.

14:05 Mind That Jet

The reapplied blinkers, the drop back in trip and the return to slow ground are all possible positives for MIND THAT JET and this 3yo is selected to post his first win. Two-time course winner Chinese Spirit arrives in good form and is second choice, ahead Shine On Brendan who has also been running well. Temper Trap is a major player on last month’s Hamilton efforts but that course brings out the best in him.

14:40 Havana Go

Donnelly’s Rainbow has been regressive this year but likes it here and is an interesting contender off his much-reduced mark on this first Ayr visit of 2021. However, preference is for another contender with strong course form, namely HAVANA GO who landed his second C&D win of the season last time out. Flying Moon won this last year and is also respected.

15:15 Big Les (NAP)

It’s hard to get away from BIG LES (nap) who won in good style over C&D last week and is well treated under a 5lb penalty. Global Humor won at Hamilton recently on his first encounter with soft ground and could have more to offer on such a surface, while last year’s winner Black Friday and three-time course winner John Kirkup are other likely players. Rhythm and Kapono ran big races last time out, albeit on different surfaces to the one they will tackle here.

15:50 Viva Voce

Plenty are in with a shout. In-form maidens Hostelry and Listen Again figure high on the shortlist, while course winner Retirement Beckons wasn’t seen to best effect when fourth at Hamilton and seems sure to be on the premises. But it could be worth siding with the less exposed VIVA VOCE who gained his previous win on soft ground after a break and can race off a career-low mark.

16:25 All Things Bright

Recent C&D scorer Kats Bob is respected but an 8lb higher mark means he’ll probably need a career best to follow up. Claims are also held by True Mason, Jackhammer and First Greyed (second choice), but ALL THINGS BRIGHT had some solid form in Ireland and is of plenty of interest on her first start for Tristan Davidson.

16:55 One Night In Milan

De Mazzaro is a really likeable sort who can’t be discounted in his bid for a fifth win of 2021 but he faces no easy task conceding weight to ONE NIGHT IN MILAN and Frightened Rabbit. Both look well treated in this sphere judged on their hurdling exploits and preference is for Keith Dalgleish’s 8yo who can go one better here after a promising second at Catterick last week.
