Bumper winner Blazing Khal is a strong contender. GRINGO D’AUBRELLE won a maiden point and before finishing a distant third in a strong bumper at Thurles in January, he rates as the selection. Ingenious Stroke also won a maiden point and is a noteworthy recruit to a top team.

13:45 Perry Owens

Eoin Walsh rode two winners at Gowran Park towards the end of last week and can keep up the good work on PERRY OWENS (NAP), whose staying-on third at Listowel suggests he will be suited by this trip. Punters Poet can probably reverse previous course form with Son Of Hypos. Fancy A Cosmo and Present Road lack hurdling experience, but could go well.

14:20 Future Romance

Not a strong contest, but cases can be made for a few of them. Fair Minded won the race last year and comes into it. Johanna Yeats will appreciate any rain that falls, and Indian Admiral is interesting on debut for Henry de Bromhead. It is hard to overlook FUTURE ROMANCE off a mark of 86 after winning both starts on the Flat this summer.

14:55 Ilikedwayurthinkin

Soldier At War has a year’s absence to overcome, while Eleazar Des Neiges was found wanting in better company last year, but is well suited by the race conditions. It all points to ILIKEDWAYURTHINKIN, a dual winner over hurdles here and impressive in victory over fences at Ballinrobe last time.

15:30 Gabynako

A fascinating beginners chase. Cheltenham runner-up Magic Daze is a fascinating recruit to fences and gets the mare’s allowance. Noble Yeats and Julies Stowaway are also very interesting recruits, while Birchdale comes into it if he can improve from his run at Listowel. The one to be on could well be GABYNAKO, who took on the best novice hurdlers last season with credit and can do well over fences this season.

16:05 Bridge Native

This looks open, but Jordan Gainford’s 5lbs claim might be enough to swing in it in the direction of joint top-weight BRIDGE NATIVE who had fellow 10-year-old Winter Escape well behind when fourth here last month. Goodbye Someday has yet to convince over fences, but could be interesting in his first handicap.

16:40 Smooth Player

Small field, but an interesting race. All of those with previous form have room for improvement, especially Magnetic Pulse and Ocojohn, but Elliott newcomer SMOOTH PLAYER has plenty of bumper winners in his immediate family and it would be a surprise if he was not good enough to score.
