It will be very interesting to see how French hurdle winner Haddex Des Obeaux fares on today’s British debut, but the most obvious answer is OUR SURPRISE. He was quite impressive when making all at Newton Abbot in April and can probably improve again. Course bumper winner Baddesley ought to have a future over jumps, but this hurdling debut comes after a long absence.
Wasdell Dundalk struck form and won twice at Worcester in July, but the likelihood of ground slower than good dents his appeal here and preference is for CHAMPAGNE CITY. He has an excellent strike-rate over hurdles and is probably still on a workable mark after his Worcester success in August. Lightly raced six-year-old Pasvolsky will find this easier than his handicap debut in April and is also considered.
Mac Tottie was in excellent form in the spring, but HIGHWAY ONE O ONE seemed to get his career back on track with a couple of fairly good hurdle runs in March and is now very well handicapped on some of his older chasing form. Anemoi starts off for Gary Moore on a workable mark and might also feature.
There should be more to come from Worcester winner Keepyourdreamsbig, while George Bancroft has won his last two Flat races and is an interesting recruit to hurdling. However, the one to beat is THE YELLOW MINI, who left her modest Flat form well behind when winning a course and distance hurdle last month and was not discredited when second to a good prospect at Plumpton 12 days ago.
She has fitness to prove after a 388-day absence, but unexposed mare GAOT (NAP) bumped into a well-treated rival and was beaten under a length when a clear second on her handicap debut. Her subsequent 3lbs rise is offset by Kevin Brogan’s very useful claim here and she has significant potential for further improvement this season. No Worries has won his last two and is feared most.
This can go to Gary Moore’s hat-trick seeker MISTER TICKLE, who made it 2-2 in blinkers when making all over course and distance last time and a 3lbs rise for that success looks fair. The main threat could come from Sandy Boy, who swooped late to score at Worcester on his penultimate run and looks interesting if he can recapture that form after a break.
