NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Newmarket 13:50 – Foorat

ITV racing comes from the Rowley Mile at Newmarket and up north at York on Friday with two races. We start with a Listed race for Fillies and Mares over a mile and I’m expecting ground conditions to be good at worst and maybe even quicker by race time.

Charlie Appleby and Godolphin are having an unbelievable season and Wedding Dance will be close to the top of the market despite not having run for 419 days. She has the potential to be much better than we have seen already, but that long layoff is a concern.

I am keen on Roger Varian’s Foorat who has some good form to her name, including when sixth at  Royal Ascot and was narrowly beaten in a muddling race at York last time over 1m 2f. She drops back in trip and can get the job done.

York 14:05 – Cairn Island

Kevin Ryan and jockey Kevin Stott teamed up last weekend to win the Ayr Gold Cup with Bielsa and they are a formidable pair in sprint races. Cairn Island roared back to form with a win over course and distance last month and he looked like he was one to follow after that success.

Mr Wagyu was third in the Ayr Gold Cup to Bielsa and is due a hike in the ratings so trainer John Quinn is acting to take advantage of that. He has run well in big sprints all season and has a solid chance.

Newmarket 14:25 – Domino Darling

William Haggas is having a brilliant season and this daughter of Golden Horn ran a nice race at Windsor behind subsequent Group 1 Prix Vermeille winner Teona. Domino Darling started joint-favourite at Windsor – such is her reputation  and this looks like her chance to show us what she can do.

Albaflora is the obvious danger having finished second in the Yorkshire Oaks to Snowfall.

York 14:40 – Danzan

Danzan has performed with real credit all season and deserves to get his head in front for trainer Tim Easterby. He ran a belter when a close-up third at Ayr in the Bronze Cup and his effort behind Mark’s Choice in the Great St Wilfrid at Ripon reads well too.

Newmarket 15:00 – Jumbly

Majestic Glory won the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket and was bought by Doreen Tabor and this daughter of Frankel cost £350,000 as a foal!

She will like the ground and trainer Andrew Balding is in great form. Jumbly was impressive at Kempton but ever her debut win at Leicester has had the form boosted a few times. She is a work in progress and Roger Charlton like to bring them on as two-year-olds. If she makes the expected improvement she could take a bit of beating at decent odds. Oscula is proven one on the big stage – winning a Group 3 at Deauville two starts back – but she had a tough season already.

Newmarket 15:35 – Master of The Seas

Master of the Seas has not run since getting chinned in the 2,000 Guineas by Poetic Flare and that is the stand-out form in the Group 2 Joel Stakes. That is stand-out form and William Buick’s mount will be hard to beat. Godolphin’s other runner Benbatl is a previous winner of this contest and made a reasonably pleasing reappearance when beaten a short-head after an absence in the Group 2 Celebration Mile at Goodwood last month. That was his first run since finishing third to Kameko and Regal Reality in this contest 12 months ago.

Mick Fitzgerald’s best bets:

Newmarket 13:50 – Foorat
York 14:05 – Cairn Island
Newmarket 14:25 – Domino Darling
York 14:40 – Danzan
Newmarket 15:00 – Jumbly
Newmarket 15:35 – Master of The Seas
