Newmarket 13:50 – Maamora (E/W)
ITV Racing Friday gets under here with a Listed race for fillies and mares over 1m. Nothing stands out here. I’ll have a few quid each-way on MAAMORA for the Crisfords and James Doyle. The experienced daughter of Dubawi can keep things simple from the front and once had a high rating after making all in the Atalanta Stakes at Sandown. She wasn’t disgraced in a Listed event at Longchamp last time and has place claims at least.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
York 14:05 – Mr Wagyu (E/W)
A tough handicap at York over 6f. MR WAGYU is 1lb lower here than when third in the Ayr Gold Cup last Saturday and if able to repeat that form he has place claims at least for trainer John Quinn and Jason Hart. An impressive winner of the consolation Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood, Mr Wagyu also ran well when sixth in the Portland at Doncaster and the form of that race looks strong. He’s got a big weight but is a talented sprinter.
Newmarket 14:25 – Albaflora
This is the Group 3 Princess Royal Stakes for fillies and mares over 1m4f. ALBAFLORA really should take all the beating for Ralph Beckett and Rossa Ryan. The impressive Buckhounds Stakes winner at Ascot back in May has been fairly consistent since then including when a distant second last time to Snowfall in the Yorkshire Oaks. She stays well and as long as the ground hasn’t dried out too much she will take a world of beating.
York 14:40 – La Trinidad (E/W)
Another handicap this time over 7f. The trip is a worry for Able Kane who did this column a favour at Doncaster last time. I’ll give another chance to LA TRINIDAD who failed in a hat-trick bid at this track when last seen. Many will feel he is in the grip of the handicapper now and they might well be right, but equally his stamina might be key against a lot of ‘iffy’ stayers here and even though beaten he wasn’t disgraced on that most recent effort. Paddy’s due to pay 4 places on this race so let’s take advantage of the Roger Fell and Rowan Scott runner.

Newmarket 15:00 – Oscula (E/W)
Now the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes for fillies over 7f. Majestic Glory is the one to beat, but I’ll back the tough and very consistent OSCULA each-way here for George Boughey and William Buick. Oscula brings in a decent level of ability having made all in a Group 3 at Deauville two runs ago. The chances are she will use her experience and go from the front and they will have to be pretty good to get by her. Obviously if there is something special in the field she will get picked up. But at the likely odds, I will take that chance.
Newmarket 15:35 – Benbatl
A Group 2 contest next in the Joel Stakes over 1m. The 2,000 Guineas second Master of the Seas is back and will be tough to stop, but at the odds I’d much rather back super talented BENBATL to at least hit the frame against the favourite. Benbatl, who goes for Oisin Murphy and Saeed bin Suroor in a battle of blue, returned after a lay-off to chase home Lavender’s Blue in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood. That was someway below his best form, but it should have put him spot on for this task and let’s hope all eight run so we get the three places.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
