VAN MEEGEREN opened his account for these connections on the Flat in June and ran his best race to date over hurdles when runner-up at Stratford last month. On that running he is more than capable of picking up a race of this nature and appears to have been presented with a good opportunity here. He is preferred to the less-exposed First Street, who looked a good prospect when making a winning start over hurdles at Bangor.
This looks open, but based on Flat form, the David Pipe-trained LADY RESET is potentially thrown in. She opened her account over hurdles at Stratford in June from a 1 lb lower mark and has since won a handicap at Sandown back on the level from a BHA mark of 73 10 days ago. She clearly arrives in form and could take a bit of stopping from bottom weight. Pencreek, who ran out an impressive winner of a handicap at Bangor recently, looks the biggest danger.
You can make a case for all six of these, but 10-year-old PINK EYED PEDRO has been knocking on the door of late, and is taken to roll back the years and record a first win for nearly a year. He shaped better than the distance beaten last time, another to succumb to Cartmel’s demanding long run-in, and he also finds himself in a weaker race now. Vision des Flos mastered Zoffee with relative ease when they met earlier this month so they are taken to chase the selection home.
AN TAILLIUR was a big improver earlier in the year, completing a quick-fire hat-trick with tonnes in hand at Southwell when last seen in May and he should have even more to offer. He has been freshened up since, but he should have conditions in his favour kept to another sharp track, and he remains a handicapper to be positive about. Seaborough arrives on the back of 3 runner-up efforts and should give another good account, also.
THREE BULLET GATE looked to have the race at his mercy when taking a late fall at Market Rasen when last seen in June, still several lengths to the good when coming down at the second-last. He appeared to be rejuvenated by first-time blinkers on that occasion and, while the handicapper has raised him 4 lb in the weights since, he should be able to gain compensation if in the same form. Last year’s winner Go As You Please rates the chief threat.
WHITE WALKER has made a promising start for this yard, opening his account at the third attempt since leaving Dan Skelton in a handicap at Market Rasen last month, and wasn’t seen to best effect at Uttoxeter last time. He was given a patient ride and ultimately left with too much to do, but left the impression he is still in form, and can get back on the up now. Presenting Yeats and Not A Present are feared most.
