13:30 Listowel – Realist

The Mullins/Townsend representative Feigh clearly makes the market for everything else in this field having dotted up for connections at Killarney last month. Another likely smart sort from the Closutton conveyor belt of smart fillies and mares you could readily argue if she takes another step forward here that she is the most likely winner especially as she was far from fluent that day.

However, I am not so sure how strong that race was and I am prepared to take her on with one of the boys. I love the way that the Gordon Elliot runner Realist went about his business at Down Royal when seeing off Bell Ex One (reoppses again) and company.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

What I liked about his performance was the way he kept putting himself right at his obstacles and showing a high cruising speed back on the flat as you would quite rightly expect from an ex Michael Bell flat racer, rated as high as 78 over a mile and a quarter.

Expect another big step forward here as he was green that day which would at the very least see him test the filly. Of the remainder, Noel Meade’s Ballinrobe winner Too Bright also looked an above average type and shouldnt be dismissed lightly.

14:40 Plumpton – Glory And Fortune

There is little doubt that this class three handicap hurdle wont take an awful lot of winning and although frustrating so far in his career we know that Glory And Fortune has the latent talent to win this.

He looked more than a shade unlucky to lose last time out at Ludlow having travelled superbly into the race and then quickened up nicely off the home turn only to try and demolish the second last obstacle. That was ultimately the difference between victory and defeat.

The assessor has put him a pound for that run, but that shouldn’t inconvenience him and if this slightly quirky individual fancies putting his best foot forward I fancy he can give the weight away to the likes of Leroy Leroy and Manor Park.

15:10 Plumpton – Romanor

As regular readers know I wouldn’t usually tip up a favourite as ‘value’ is the byword for this betting column but everything is in the favour of the top weight.

A free wheeling front runner, Romanor, should relish the tight nature of this track. Twice a winner off 102 and then second last time out off 112, he only has an extra pound to contend with here and could get a soft lead up front.

A slick jumper of his fences, he could have quite a few of these in trouble a fair way out and is taken to defy his new mark. I have little doubt that Dogon is the biggest danger, but he is highly temperamental and if the selection gets into a good rhythm he could easily down tools and pack it in early for the day.

16:50 Hamilton – Doctor Parnassus (E/W)

At this stage of the season at the lower echelon of three-year-old handicaps it is hard to find a youngster hiding his true talent under a bushel. I fancy that earlier on in the season that David O’Meara would have been thinking Doctor Parnassus was, at the very least, a grade higher than this.

The class two Melrose Handicap at the York Ebor Festival (went off at 100/1) was quite obviously shooting at stars, but he did himself absolutely no favours by pulling like the proverbial train and taking a wide course around his rivals. Since then the youngster has run well here although the line of form that gives him outstanding claims here is his second off a 2lbs higher mark at Haydock Park at the height of summer.

A repeat of that performance on ground he likes would make him a very solid each-way play at this level. Top weight Haveyoumissedme is an obvious player down in grade, but an even bigger danger could be the bottom weight Hellenista. She was quite impressive at Ripon and although this event requires a further step up she is quite clearly going the right way.
