Ayr 13:55 – Juan Elcano

Last year’s winner Addeybb doesn’t re-oppose so it leaves it a more open race. There isn’t much between Euchen Glen and Juan Elcano. On these terms, I’ll side with Juan Elcano. He never landed a blow in the Juddmonte Stakes but on either of his previous two efforts, he’ll be tough to beat in this. Euchen Glen has had a great season, but his last two runs have been poor so I’m siding with Juan Elcano.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Newbury 14:15 – King’s Lynn

This is a trappy enough race, but there’s a bit of quality on show and King’s Lynn can take this for the current Jockey and Trainer Championship leaders Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy. He ran flat last time in a similar race, but his Royal Ascot form gives him every chance in this. Khaadem and Tis Marvellous are both in form, but if King’s Lynn can put his last run behind him, he’ll take a bit of beating.

Ayr 14:30 – Blackrod

Blackrod is likely going to be towards the front of the market coming into this off the back of two wins on his last two starts. He beat a good field at York last time and was a winner the time before that in a big field handicap. Even though he’s only three years old, he’s got good form in big-field handicaps like this and he’s off a nice weight with Billy Garrity taking off 3lbs. He’ll be a hard one to keep out of the places.

Newbury 14:50 – Al Aasy

Al Aasy has to give weight to three of his four rivals but is two from two at Newbury and William Haggas looks to have found a winnable race for him here to get back on track. Some people questioned his attitude after being beaten the last twice by a neck, but to me that’s not a worry and I’d like to see him win well, lining him up for a big autumn target. Possibly the Arc de Triomphe.

Ayr-Racecourse

Ayr 15:05 – Head Mistress

Head Mistress is a very interesting runner. She’s Ger Lyons’ only runner on the card and has looked above average in her two runs to date. It probably wasn’t the strongest of races last time, but she had to race towards the centre of the track on her own, but was well on top at the line. Kevin Ryan’s filly Hala Hala Athmani looked very good on debut but Head Mistress is the one for me.

Ayr 15:40 – Bielsa

The last three winners of the Ayr Gold Cup were drawn in double figures and I think one drawn highest of all, Bielsa can run well in this year’s contest. He’s been running well this season without getting his head in front and wasn’t beaten too far in this race last year off a 1lb higher mark. Kevin Ryan last won the Ayr Gold Cup with Brando and Bielsa might be able to add to that now.

Newbury 16:00 – Manaccan

I’d give an each way shout to Manaccan for John Ryan and William Buick. He’s improved with each run so far and wasn’t far behind Maglev on his second start at York. It’s a competitive looking race but he’ll be an each-way price and he could easily improve again on what he’s showing giving him a decent chance.
