13:15 Witch Hunter

This doesn’t look a strong maiden for the track on paper with the ones with experience not setting a lofty standard. Richard Hannon has a good squad of juveniles this season so market support for WITCH HUNTER, whose sales price increased at the breeze-ups earlier this year, would look significant. Dark Swansong and Flying Secret both bring a fair level of form to the table and their experience could count for plenty, while Deodar and Neptunian are a couple of other newcomers to note.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

13:45 Silk Romance

SILK ROMANCE is bred to be smart and shaped with plenty of promise amidst greenness on debut at Kempton last month and she built on that run as expected when bolting up at Newmarket last time. She started at short odds that day and completed the job in pleasing fashion, keeping on well in the closing stages and well on top at the finish. She looks an above-average filly and is fully expected to win again before moving into pattern company. Heredia created a good impression at Windsor recently and rates the main threat.

14:20 Nuance

NUANCE has an excellent pedigree and continued the theme of run-to-run progress when opening his account at the third attempt at Chester last month, winning with more in hand than the official margin suggests as his rider eased him down close home. He displayed a potent turn of foot on that occasion and the front two pulled clear of the remainder, so the form looks solid, and an opening mark of 87 may well underestimate him. Croupier got the job done nicely over course and distance last time and looks the main danger.

14:55 King of Conquest

Charlie Appleby landed this race 12 months ago with subsequent Great Voltigeur winner Yibir and he holds sound claims of recording another victory with KING OF CONQUEST. He was an expensive purchase as a yearling and was strong in the market when making a winning debut over seven furlongs at Sandown last month, impressing with how he asserted away from his rivals in the closing stages. That looked a good race on paper and King of Conquest is a confident selection to follow up in this more competitive environment. Westover has a similar profile and could prove a big threat.

15:30 Silent Escape

SILENT ESCAPE is a fast-improving filly who has won three of her four starts and looks ready for this step into listed class judged by her latest win in a handicap at Sandown. She travelled like a smart filly that day and proved herself in a different league to her rivals. There could be even more to come from her, and this looks the obvious next step. Al Suhail and D’bai both represent the in-form Charlie Appleby yard and already have smart form in the book, so it would be folly to ignore their claims, too.

16:05 Surrey Gold

SURREY GOLD showed much improved form when winning a handicap over 11 furlongs at this course in May and he hasn’t been seen to best effect on both of his starts since, seemingly not relishing the longer trip in the ultra-competitive Melrose at York last time. The drop to a mile and a half should be perfect for him and the feeling is he has more to offer from this sort of mark, so he is taken to bounce back. Several others can have a case made for them, notably the improving Makram and the front-running Star Caliber.

16:35 Dartington

DARTINGTON pulled clear of the third when runner-up at Epsom last week and is 3 lb well-in compared to his future mark, so he may be able to end the winning run of Andrew Balding’s improving three-year-old Neenee’s Choice.
