Having improved for the step up to this trip last time, KNIGHT RIDER is taken to win on his handicap debut, with Signorina Merisi and Victory his most likely dangers.

Although C&D winner Tuscan and the Godolphin newcomer Mythical Dancer have a chance, this can go to the Convivial eighth SHARVARA who is taking a significant drop in grade and should improve markedly for that debut run.

Armed with the most experience, the best form and sure to be helped by returning to 7f, there’s plenty to like about OH HERBERTS REIGN. Yellow Bear was perhaps unlucky not to win here three weeks ago and he’s feared most, ahead of Killearn, Hypersonical and Blenheim Boy.

15:25 Mossbawn (NAP)

It’s easy to make a strong case for MOSSBAWN (nap), who was raised only 3lb for his recent C&D win and is still quite lightly raced. He gets the vote ahead of Trinity Lake, who hasn’t won for a while but will appreciate today’s drop back in trip and has been given a chance by the handicapper. Soaring Star should also be suited by today’s drop back to 7f and, with cheekpieces refitted, is next on the list.

16:00 King Triton

Strong market confidence behind Godolphin’s returning handicap newcomer Noble Dynasty could prove significant but a more solid option at this stage is KING TRITON, who posted a fine first effort for Grant Tuer when third in a big-field 3yo handicap at York’s Ebor meeting. The hat-trick seeking Bowland Park is another likely to go well in a useful 3yo event.

Star Jewel has the potential for better again after only three starts, while Ffion has a pretty solid record in handicaps and can also be expected to go well. However, the vote goes to CELESTIAL QUEEN, who looked to have a bit up her sleeve here last time so could still be well treated after a 2lb rise.

17:10 Southern Voyage

Strawberry Rock is a solid proposition on this season’s form but he may struggle to contain the 3yo SOUTHERN VOYAGE, whose running style could be keeping him ahead of the handicapper. This trip might be ideal for Eagle Court and he’s next best.

17:40 Ballintoy Harbour

All of these would have claims if putting their best foot forward. BALLINTOY HARBOUR didn’t run at all badly in a deeper race at York and she’s a lightly raced filly with better days ahead of her. Havagomecca rates a big threat on her Ascot form (penultimate run) and she’s second choice ahead of Ready Freddie Go.
