ITV coverage Saturday starts here at Haydock with a Group 3 over 1m. A big chance for MY OBERON to get back to winning ways with blinkers on for the first time. Trained by William Haggas and ridden by Tom Marquand, My Oberon has been in fair form all season and wasn’t beaten miles by the useful Real World at York last time. With the headgear on and dropping a little in trip he has a great chance.
ITV is also at Kempton Saturday and brings you this Group 3 Sirenia Stakes for juveniles over 6f. I tipped up WINGS OF WAR at York the other day and he ran a cracker in third. I suspect there is still more to come from the Dark Angel offspring and he can give Hector Crouch a great ride for Clive Cox. After three runs he should able to produce his best and on ratings he’s already bang in the mix.
Now a handicap over 1m6f. PRAIANO has a big chance here. On his first try at this trip, the Roger Varian runner ran really well at Sundown last time in fourth behind Oceanline but that only tells half the story. Having lost position 3f out he ran on well close home suggesting there is much more to come. I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t go very close here under Andrea Atzeni.
Another Group 3 here in the September Stakes over 1m4f. Hard to get away from the improving HUKUM even if Hamish copes well with the surface. HUKUM has improved all season for Owen Burrows and Jim Crowley, and while he has to give weight away here he should be good enough after dominant displays at York and Newbury. Although he stays well he has speed for this distance.

This is another handicap but a valuable one in the Old Borough Cup over 1m6f. INDIANAPOLIS stays strong and has place claims at least for Ian Williams and Ray Dawson as a well handicapped runner. Once rated 100, Indianapolis is now down to 85 despite running well off 88 at Newbury two runs ago. That was over an extended 2m and I have a feeling this trip is ideal. He could have been laid out for this by his canny handler.
Two from Ascot on ITV Saturday including this handicap over 1m4f. I’ll take a chance each way here on STATE OF BLISS at big odds for Nicola Currie and Mark Johnston. The colt was well beaten at York last time but he went far too fast there from a nasty draw and I’d just forget about that run. Most won’t, though, which means his odds are too big on the back of a good win at the Shergar Cup. A mark of 92 might not be as crazy as it seems.
Now the big one, the Group 1 Sprint Cup over 6f. Very boring, but STARMAN should be a good thing here despite giving weight away to a few of his rivals. The July Cup winner has perfect conditions to show his best and was far from disgraced in France last time on slow ground. His trainer Ed Walker has had a fine season as has jockey Tom Marquand, and the July Cup winning team look easily the best on paper. Starman has been well backed all week and could easily go off odds on. Smash up job.
Another handicap here over 7f. TOP SECRET is edging up the handicap but gets in with a nice weight here for Nicola Currie once again and this time the Muir/Grassick combo. Top Secret won well at this track three runs ago and has since gone close at Newmarket and Newbury suggesting he remains bang in form. With just 8st 5lb and being a strong stayer at 7f he should be placed at least. A few quid each way.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
