Top of the list is SECOND SLIP, who really kicked on again with his emphatic win over C&D in June and backed that up with a close second behind an improver here last time. Andrew Balding’s lightly raced hat-trick seeker Winterwatch is feared most, ahead of Moon Daisy and Vindolanda who had a good battle when filling the first two places in a racing league event at Doncaster four weeks ago. The other one on the shortlist in this competitive race is The Whipmaster, who looks interesting on his step up to 1m4f.
This can go to Michael Bell’s 3yo ACE ROTHSTEIN (nap), who found plenty of progress with his easy win on his handicap/seasonal debut at Yarmouth last week and is well treated under a penalty. Second choice is Rewired, who got back on the scoresheet at Sandown last month and should make another bold bid off his revised mark. Painless Potter and Scampi have each-way claims, while another to consider is Tregony, who had an excuse at Nottingham in her bid a for a five-timer and could resume her progress.
Sevenal and Bonneval (preferred in that order) probably still have potential and are respected but LORD NEIDIN was persistently denied a clear run when fourth behind the latter over C&D in late July and was also a bit unlucky when last in action. If gaps appear when he needs them today, he might be the answer. Draconid is unraced on anything other than slow turf but also looks interesting.

The winner of five of his seven starts this year, BILLHILLY is well-in under a penalty for last Thursday’s easy turf win and can go in again. Chief dangers Third Kingdom and Foxtrot Sizzler have done their winning from the front, as has Brains, who would have preferred another furlong, while a better showing from Abduction at a bigger price wouldn’t surprise.
Something of a double reunion, with Strike Red having had five of these behind over C&D in late July, and Typhoon Ten having had three behind at Lingfield three weeks ago. Cash Machine, who started favourite for the former race, remains open to improvement, as does FERNANDO RAH, who’s progressed nicely all summer and will be suited by the return to 6f under a 5lb claimer.
Show Me Show Me came out on top in a racing league event at Lingfield last Thursday but THE PRINCES POET didn’t get any luck when a close fourth in that race. He has a 7lb swing in the weights with his old rival and is a big player if he can transfer his progress back to AW. Faustus is feared most, although another 3yo Electric Love finished just ahead of the selection last week and she’s respected, along with Saluti, who won over C&D on his penultimate run. Others to consider are Kool Moe Dee and Huraiz.
