14:10 – Chipstead
Chipstead, a brother to the Group 1 winner Oxted, took eight starts to get off the mark, but he did so in good style over this course and distance 18 days ago. Chipstead produced a career-best effort on his first start over five furlongs and he remains unexposed over the minimum trip. A 6 lb rise should not prevent this well-bred sprinter from following up.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
14:40 – Goldenhurst
Goldenhurst remains a maiden after six starts but he sets a clear standard on form. He ran up to his best when runner-up at Brighton recently and looks to have been found a good opportunity to get off the mark for the in-form Richard Hannon.
15:10 – Artemis Sky
Artemis Sky produced her best effort yet when runner-up here last time, appreciating the step up to a mile and three-quarters. She was beaten only half a length, despite conceding first run, and there could be more to come, for all the slight drop in trip here doesn’t look a positive.
15:40 – Royal Event
Royal Event was disappointing when failing to beat home a rival on her handicap debut at Newmarket last time, but she had shaped with plenty of promise when runner-up at the same venue on her previous outing and looks worth another chance. The well-bred Royal Event steps up more than three furlongs in trip but her pedigree offers hope that this sort of test will suit.

16:10 – Essgee Nics
Essgee Nics looked better than ever when scoring at Wolverhampton last week and can follow up here. That was a weak affair, but he won with more in hand than the margin of a length would suggest, while this also does not appeal as being a strong contest. He is versatile regards trip and has won over course and distance, so a bold bid looks on the cards under a penalty.
16:45 – Vive La Danse
Vive la Danse remains a maiden after ten starts but he has been knocking on the door of late and has finished placed on his last three starts. He didn’t completely convince with his finishing effort at Lingfield last time, when he hung left and failed to go by after holding every chance, but the application of blinkers might help, and some of his rivals have even bigger questions to answer.
17:15 – Red Alert
Red Alert goes well here and has three course-and-distance victories to his name, including a win in this event in 2018. He is on a long losing run and is not the force of old, but he’s shown enough of late to suggest that he can capitalise on a falling mark – his latest second at Goodwood was especially encouraging.
