ITV coverage Saturday starts with the Group 3 Prestige Stakes over 7 furlongs for juvenile fillies. DANEH should take some beating here for the Crisfords (Simon and Ed) and James Doyle. The daughter of Dubai won well on debut at Kempton and then upped her game behind Oscula in a Group 3 at Deauville, where she stayed on nicely without getting to the winner. That stamina should prove a useful weapon here.
ITV also show racing from Beverley, including this handicap over 1m 2f. I’ll take a chance here with NORECOLLECTION for Alan King and Paul Hanagan. My hope flopped at Salisbury last time with juice in the ground, but ran fine off 85 when third at Leicester the time before. He drops 1lb here from a good draw too.
Now a handicap over 7 furlongs and Clive Cox thinks the world of ARATUS, so the son of Free Eagle is a strong fancy. David Egan takes the ride as stable jockey Adam Kirby can’t do 8st 7lb and is on stable companion Dance Fever, who has each-way claims. However, I believe Egan’s ride will take some stopping here having scored nicely at Newbury last time. There was a real twinkle in the Cox eye that day.
We’ve got one race on ITV from Newmarket in this Listed event over 6 furlongs. I have a feeling CHIEFOFCHIEFS will defy his rating and run a big one here for Hayley Turner and Charlie Fellowes. The Stewards’ Cup fifth has been in fine form of late and should get a decent pace to run at here. A rating below 100 should not be good enough, but I suspect he’ll be placed at least.
This is the March Stakes, a Group 3 for three-year-olds over 1m 6f and it’s hard to oppose NAGANO in a poor renewal of this race. Roger Varian trains with David Egan on top, and the 101-rated gelding probably only has to repeat his win at the track last time to score again. Looks an improver and wasn’t disgraced when sixth in the King George V at Royal Ascot.
This is a Listed sprint over 5 furlongs and it’s wide open heat. TIS MARVELLOUS got back to winning form for Clive C0x at Ascot last time and should be another to give Paul Hanagan a decent spin. He has a good draw and a rating which puts him right in the mix. Conditions are ideal for a big each-way run.
Finally at Goodwood the feature Celebration Mile over, surprisingly, one mile. CHINDIT has been crying out for decent ground and finally gets the chance to show us what he can do for Richard Hannon and Pat Dobbs. The latter loves this horse, and he returned this term with a good win at Newbury.
He didn’t run to his best at Ascot while a fine fifth in the St James’s Palace Stakes and while officially the ground was good, it was too soft in France last time. While Benbatl sets a good standard, he’s worth taking on at the age of seven on seasonal debut for all Oisin Murphy thinks the world of him.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
