Always a highlight of the Flat season in the UK, the Ebor Handicap 2021 boasts a quality field of 22 runners seeking the £300,000 winner’s prize pot.

The antepost favourite Live Your Dream failed to make the final cut so the likes of Hamish and Sonnyboyliston are left to battle for market supremacy.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

With a maximum crop of horses set to go to post there’s plenty of value to be found – and Paddy’s paying SIX places each-way!

To help you with your punting picks, our main man has gathered his pals to deliver their top tips for the Ebor Handicap 2021.

Timeform:ILARAAB looked tailor-made for this when an emphatic winner here on his return and wasn’t seen to best effect when eighth in the Hardwicke. With this longer trip a big plus too, he’s fancied to bounce back in style. Irish challengers hold a good record and Willie Mullins’ Mt Leinster brings untapped potential and rates the pick. Hamish and last year’s winner Fujaira Prince can have a say too.”

Matt Chapman: “It won’t be easy under 10st, but I’m staying with the defending champion FUJAIRA PRINCE for Roger Varian and Andrea Atzeni. The lightly raced seven-year-old is one of the few in the field who is able to race close to the pace and see the trip out strongly. Stall 19 is not ideal, but if he gets into a good rhythm out near the front he will be hard to catch. Have a few quid on each-way.”

Ruby Walsh:MT LEINSTER is an interesting runner and his form at Listowel where he beat Cape Gentleman and Arcadian Sunrise looks really impressive. He’s a good each-way shout, even with a poor draw.”

Jason Weaver: “I cannot believe the odds on MAX VEGA. He has a favourable turnaround in the weights with the three horses that were slightly in front of him last time out on his seasonal reappearance. He stays well, he’s proven with some ease in the ground and if the rain (which is forecasted) arrives before this contest, that is going to suit our selection perfectly. Last year’s winner Fujaira Prince has to give Max Vega a full 8lbs, having raced him off level weights last time. He has really got to be a big each-way player in the Ebor Handicap.”

Mick Fitzgerald:FUJAIRA PRINCE has a warm up run at York under his belt and when you see him in the flesh he is a big horse! He needed that run to blow the cobwebs away and I know it is a big ask carrying such a huge weight, but he is big enough to carry it and win the Ebor Handicap for consecutive seasons.”

Paddy Power:HAMISH has won over course and distance twice, both on different grounds so he has any inclement weather covered. He also looks the top pick of the Haggas runners.”
