Stradivarius is the star name in the Lonsdale Cup as John & Thady Gosden’s super stayer attempts to bounce back to winning ways.
The seven-year-old delivered a disappointing performance in June’s Gold Cup at Ascot before swerving the Goodwood Cup due to adverse ground conditions.
Stradivarius faces four rivals including Goodwood Cup winner Trueshan and Yorkshire Cup champ Spanish Mission in today’s British Champions Series contest.
Paddy’s got his pals together to deliver their tips for the Lonsdale Cup and you can find their selections below.
Matt Chapman: “Some have given up on STRADIVARIUS, but not me. There have been plenty of decent reasons why the John Gosden runner has not come up to scratch in recent times and even despite that, he hasn’t always been disgraced.”
Mick Fitzgerald: “It was a very lacklustre effort from STRADIVARIUS at Royal Ascot last time and the question remains is he past his best? I still believe this ground gives him the edge over Trueshan.”
Jason Weaver: “The old boy STRADIVARIUS is back for more and he should not be underestimated on a track that clearly suits him. He didn’t take his chance at Goodwood when going for the five timer in the Goodwood Cup and connections’ patience can be rewarded with success here.”
Timeform: “STRADIVARIUS still holds all the aces despite meeting with defeat in the Gold Cup, and he’s well worth a chance to turn the form around with Spanish Mission from that day. Trueshan would arguably benefit from softer ground, but he’s a tough character who is rarely off his game, so he’s unlikely to be far away.”
Paddy Power: “There’s obviously a good chance that Stradivarius bounces back now that the Gosden’s are flying again, but if feels to me like TRUESHAN is here to stay and I fancy him to confirm the changing of the guard.”
