It’s day two of the Ebor Festival at York and it is the turn of the girls to take centre stage. We have a couple of big fillies’ races including the highlight, the Darley Yorkshire Oaks at 15:35. I have gone round and round trying to make a strong case for one of the others to beat SANDRINE in the opener but I genuinely can’t find one.
SYSTEM – the daughter of Galileo Gold – was unlucky at Ascot last month getting hampered late on and this looks a perfect opportunity for her to get back on the winning trail for Richard Hannon.
This son of Canford Cliffs is a very strong traveller in his races for trainer Jamie Osborne. CLIFFS OF CAPRI has run in some big handicaps and is now on a mark he can be competitive off. He ran a good race over 7 furlongs at Ascot and I reckon he could spring a little surprise here.
There’s no doubting SNOWFALL’s superiority over the three-year-old generation of her sex. She is proven on all types of ground and it’s just looks a case of finding one to finish second to her. Loving Dream revelled in the conditions at Ascot in June when beating Eshaada. With no rain around to help Wonderful Tonight, Loving Dream could be the one for the forecast.
I was working at Ffos Las when HARROW won and there is no doubting his ability. He just has an awkward way of racing. His handicap mark does not reflect his ability and I’m hoping he could be a good value bet in here because of that.
Jesse Harrington is a very shrewd cookie and the fact that she is sending FORBEARANCE – a daughter of Galileo – over here to York from Ireland has turned my head. Hollie Doyle is onboard and that is also a plus.
AGINCOURT is a course and distance winner. She got beaten a nose earlier this year at Goodwood on fast ground and she has kept top company, so this is a definite step down in grade for her. I reckon she can take advantage of that despite shouldering top weight.
