ITV coverage of the York Ebor meeting gets under way here with a handicap over an extended 5 furlongs, and this is tough! MONDAMMEJ is right at the top of his handicap mark and doesn’t win very often. That said, he’s well up to taking a race like this if everything falls right, and he’s worth a few quid each-way for Antony Brittain and Cam Hardie.
Now the Group 3 Acomb Stakes over 7 furlongs for juveniles. EHRAZ was beaten by Noble Truth on debut, but looked an absolute monster at Ascot last time and might be able to reverse the form for Richard Hannon and Jim Crowley. There was just something about him at Ascot that made him look very special.
A Group 2 here in the Great Voltigeur over 1m4f for three-year-olds. I once loved High Definition. But, it’s hard to know what to expect here. The one I will back each-way is THIRD REALM for Roger Varian and Andrea Atzeni.
He is not as good as a defeat of Adayar at Lingfield suggests, but he’s still decent and was a fair third at Goodwood last time in the Gordon Stakes. I didn’t feel he acted that well on the track and he might do better here.
Now the big one, the Group 1 Juddmonte International over an extended 1m 2f, and all you need is LOVE. The substitution for St Mark’s Basilica will take all the beating for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore. Many have written her off as a superstar because she was all out to take the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot and then beaten in the King George at Ascot. Things did not go right in the latter event, but she kept on very well and I’ll keep the faith.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
