13:50 Illustrating

Illustrating justified good support when making a winning start at Catterick and she wasn’t disgraced when fast-tracked into Group company in the Queen Mary, finishing seventh after holding every chance a furlong out. She took a big step forward when landing a conditions race at Goodwood last time, quickening clear in the style of an exciting prospect, and she can raise her game again on this first attempt at six furlongs.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

14:25 System

Richard Hannon has won four of the last five editions of this valuable sales race and has strong claims again with System, who won a listed race at Newmarket in June. She failed to build on that but ran creditably when fifth in the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot last time, and System remains open to improvement after only three starts.

15:00 Gifted Ruler

Gifted Ruler hasn’t had much racing for a four-year-old and he may not have shown everything that he has to offer. Gifted Ruler took a big leap forward from his reappearance effort when runner-up at Haydock and he ran to a similar level when filling the same position at Doncaster last time. Those efforts over seven furlongs suggested that he would benefit from the step up to a mile, and he should give another good account from a handy mark.

15:35 Snowfall

Snowfall came up short when tried in top company as a two-year-old but she clearly made tremendous physical progress over the winter and has developed into a very smart filly. She made a smooth winning reappearance in the Musidora Stakes at York and then bolted up by 16 lengths in the Oaks at Epsom. That astonishing success was backed up by the clock and it was a similar story at the Curragh, where she also won the Irish Oaks in a good time. She should prove difficult to beat.

16:10 Maglev

Maglev looked unlucky not to win a six-furlong conditions race at Chester last time but he can gain a measure of compensation on his handicap debut. Maglev was short of room at a crucial point at Chester, but he finished to good effect when in the clear, leaving the impression that he would have won if getting out earlier. The strength he showed in the finish suggests he’ll benefit from this step up to seven furlongs, while an opening mark of 91 could prove lenient for such a progressive colt who is in excellent hands with William Haggas.

16:45 Amma Grace

Amma Grace, a close relation to the high-class Free Eagle among other winners, made good progress last season and signed off for the campaign with a win in listed company at Leopardstown. She failed to fire on her return in May but posted a much more encouraging effort when fourth in Group 3 company at Cork recently. She wasn’t ideally placed at Cork and met a bit of trouble in running, so she looks capable of raising her game.

17:20 Rising Star

Rising Star has been progressing well this season and, after posting good placed efforts at Pontefract and Newmarket, she gained a deserved success at Musselburgh last month. Rising Star beat a couple of subsequent winners in a decent time, so the form looks good, and this progressive filly can defy a 7 lb rise in the weights.
