As long as the ground stays good, Hurricane Ivor should have a massive shout in a really tough race. Two of his last three runs have produced a dead heat and a short head defeat so he’s in pretty good form. Maybe most importantly is the yard form, William Haggas is flying at the moment and he loves a winner at York too – don’t we all!
Imperial Fighter won a Goodwood maiden very nicely on soft ground, which suggests rain wouldn’t be a problem and we don’t know if he needs it soft yet as that was his only run. There’s only four to beat in the race and they all have plenty to prove so at the odds he could be decent value.
A bit of a leap of faith based on performances but High Definition obviously carries a lofty reputation. I’d guess that Kemari is nowhere near as good as stablemate Hurricane Lane and High Definition has twice been hot favourite to beat Hurricane Lane, although he was stuffed both times!
I’m choosing to forgive Love‘s defeat in the King George. She’s still a superstar and even though the O’Brien stable has been a bit quiet recently, I have a feeling that they’ll come alive this week.
Scaramanga can continue the trend of jumps trainers bagging big flat handicaps. Paul Nicholls will obviously have the horse hard fit and this is his time of year as he loves good ground. He won over the trip at Newbury last time too.
