13:00 Dundalk – Moony Beams
MOONY BEAMS was turned over at odds-on at Leopardstown in June, but different tactics can see the Ger Lyons runner break his maiden in the opener at Dundalk on Sunday. Colin Keane tried to dominate from the front within a small field on the son of Farhh, but just couldn’t find more in the closing stages to outbattle Maritime Wings.
The champion jockey is more likely to look for some cover here with the form of that Foxrock race looking good after Joseph O’Brien’s winner subsequently finished second to Point Lonsdale in the Tyros Stakes. Amortentia is the obvious danger having finished second on debut for O’Brien, while a market watch is required for Royal Lodge entry Absolute Ruler on debut for Donnacha O’Brien.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
14:15 Tramore – Dazzling Dream
DAZZLING DREAM has enjoyed a mixed number of months racing over hurdles and on the Flat for Gavin Cromwell. The four-year-old hasn’t been since under rules since finishing down the field at Clonmel in May, but has managed two handicap wins on the level at both Sligo and Galway. He got his nose back in front at Ballybrit 15-days ago and looks ready to strike over hurdles off 93 for a trainer who is currently firing in the winners.
Secret Sea looks the main danger for Eoin Doyle with cheekpieces applied here following two second-place finishes at Kilbeggan and Tipperary in recent months. Withallduerespect is also in the mix for Henry de Bromhead, while the Jessica Harrington pair of Champagne Izzy and Heliers Bay can’t be dismissed. It’s an open 80 to 95 handicap hurdle, but good recent trainer form and a return to the winners’ enclosure for Dazzling Dream should be enough to see him strike again.
14:40 Dundalk – Shahaada
A race full of exposeD horses with seven of the declared runners (including reserves) with official ratings now hoping to finally win a maiden for apprentice jockeys. There are plenty with chances with both Baldomero – fifth at Killarney – and Offiah – second at Fairyhouse – both on the shortlist. Plezantlysurprised stayed on nicely on debut at Cork for Jessica Magnier and looks the least exposed and should improve for a second start and step-up in trip.
However, I’m once again siding with SHAHAADA for Kevin Prendergast and the Shadwell team having previously tipped this filly up following her encouraging debut third at the Curragh last August. She hasn’t built on that performance as yet this season with average enough runs at Dundalk, Sligo, and Leopardstown since April. Cian MacRedmond rides and she might benefit from a more forward ride from stall FIVE in what looks an open, but average enough contest.
15:15 Dundalk – Butterfly Island
The 81-rated BUTTERFLY ISLAND can score on her fourth start for Dermot Weld and Dr Lambe in this 6-furlong maiden on Sunday afternoon. She stayed on well to make an encouraging debut at Navan before going down a head when second in a bunch finish at Leopardstown last month. She wasn’t disgraced when finishing in mid-division in the Ballyhale Stakes at Naas recently and can score here under Colin Keane.
Tactics will be interesting, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the champion jockey tries to dominate from the front from stall one. Volarossa is the obvious danger, with Mikey Sheehy taking off 5lbs for Joseph O’Brien following her disappointing run at Cork.
Holy Divine could have a place claim with her fifth to Head Mistress reading well following another victory for Ger Lyons’ filly on Friday. It’s Snowing is another fighting for a place, while Rhea Moon on debut for Ken Condon requires a market watch.
17:10 Tramore – Tasiteasai
It’s hard not to follow Willie Mullins in a bumper at Tramore with TASITEASAI looking good enough on pedigree to score on her debut for the Closutton team. The four-year-old is a daughter of former Prix d’Ispahan winner Sageburg with Mullins formerly training the dam, Tasitiocht, who managed two bumper and hurdle victories and was second to Glens Melody in the Premier Bumper at Punchestown.
The market will prove the best guide to the chances of the opposition, with both Rocco Bay and Awaywithdfairies looking interesting on debut.
