13:15 Mistrix

Mistrix was narrowly denied on her debut at Doncaster last month but she created a positive impression, clocking a notably fast closing sectional. Inexperience was perhaps the difference between winning and losing as a slow start put Mistrix on the back foot in a steadily-run race, but she powered home to get within a short-head of the winner. That is just about the pick of the form on offer and she looks sure to improve, so she holds strong claims.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

13:45 Good Humor

Good Humor shaped with plenty of promise when third on his debut at Wolverhampton last November and he had his supporters on his return in a novice at Doncaster last month. He blew all chance at the start there, however, so it’s worth overlooking that run and focusing on the positives of his debut. The Wolverhampton form is the best on offer and he is worth another chance to build on that.

14:20 Peintre d’Etoiles

Peintre d’Etoiles has a stout middle-distance pedigree – she is by Sea The Stars out of a 1m5f winner – and she will surely be at her best when stepping up in trip. However, she was runner-up over this seven-furlong trip at Lingfield last time and sets a fair standard for her rivals to aim at. She is entitled to take another step forward and can get off the mark here.

14:55 Silent Flame

Silent Flame was successful over this course and distance in May and she has remained in good form since, with her one disappointing display easy to forgive as she failed to stay when upped to a mile. She quickly bounced back over six furlongs, scoring at Ffos Las before producing an even better effort in defeat at Nottingham last week. She was unlucky to bump into another upwardly-mobile sprinter at Nottingham but can run off the same mark here and holds strong claims with Oisin Murphy back in the saddle (he won on her at Ffos Las).

15:30 Fitzrovia

Fizrovia failed to fire on his first couple of outings of the campaign but the handicapper gave him a chance and he took advantage at Bath, winning from 2 lb below his previous winning mark. That victory was achieved in a race for apprentice riders, so Fitzrovia escapes a penalty and looks the one to beat from what is clearly a good mark. Andrea Atzeni is a positive jockey booking and Fitzrovia, a course-and-distance winner here last season, should go well.

16:05 Megallan

Megallan didn’t run his race in the French Derby when last seen, but he was poorly drawn there and didn’t get an ideal passage, so it’s worth overlooking that effort and instead focusing on the promise of his Dante second. Megallan got to within three-quarters of a length of Hurricane Lane and that form has been given a boost by the winner’s subsequent victories in the Irish Derby and Grand Prix de Paris. That form is up there with the best on offer and this lightly raced colt should have the pace to cope with the drop back to a mile.

16:40 Hyanna

Hyanna is on a losing run of 12 that stretches back to June of last year, but she has been running consistently well in stronger races this season and has been given a chance by the handicapper. She has slipped to a mark 2 lb below the one she defied last year, while plenty of encouragement can be taken from her latest effort at Kempton, where she found only an unexposed three-year-old too strong. She can gain a deserved success.

17:10 Encourage

Encourage has been progressing gradually over a mile and a quarter and looks sure to appreciate this step up in trip to a mile and a half. Encourage got off the mark at Newbury last month, doing well to overhaul a rival who had the run of the race out in front, and he ran to a similar level when third at Nottingham last time.

He may have beaten only one rival at Nottingham but he got to within half a length of the winner, despite shaping like there was too much of an emphasis on speed. He is entitled to improve for this step up in trip and should keep on giving a good account.
