14:15 Under Oath

UNDER OATH stands out on pedigree as a half-sister to the Prix de l’Abbaye winner Total Gallery, so it will be interesting to see whether the market speaks in her favour in a maiden restricted to newcomers. Andrew Balding, who has saddled 15 winners in the last 14 days, certainly has a strong team of two-year-olds this season, while the red-hot form of champion jockey Oisin Murphy also gives cause for plenty of optimism.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

14:50 Value Theory

VALUE THEORY showed improved form to get off the mark over this course and distance three weeks ago, making all to win by two and a half lengths in dominant fashion. This will be tougher now stepping up to Group 3 company, but she looks sure to go on improving and is fancied to prove equal to the task for Mark Johnston, who is seeking his fourth success in this race since 2014.

15:25 Blue Collar Lad

BLUE COLLAR LAD ran a huge race when second on his nursery debut at Goodwood nine days ago, proving well suited by the step up to seven furlongs. He was beaten just half a length and may have been unlucky not to win after meeting a bit of trouble in the early stages. He is only 2 lb higher in the weights here and should mount a bold bid to gain compensation, particularly with a good-value claimer taking over in the saddle.

16:00 Storm Damage

STORM DAMAGE was well backed and duly resumed his progress with a ready victory over this course and distance three weeks ago. He still looked a bit rough around the edges, but the result was never really in any doubt, just needing to be pushed out to make all by a length. He now makes the switch to handicaps and will command plenty of respect from an opening BHA mark of 97. After all, it’s highly unlikely we’ve seen the best of him yet and trainer Saeed bin Suroor could hardly be in better form at present (38% strike rate in the last 14 days).

16:30 Quintillus

QUINTILLUS has shown signs of temperament in recent starts, but there was still plenty to like about his latest effort in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot, showing useful form to pass the post just a length behind the winner in third. He seems blessed with plenty of speed, so the drop back to seven furlongs looks a wise move. Most of his rivals here have questions to answer, whereas Quintillus still looks a well-handicapped horse from just 5 lb higher in the weights than at Ascot.

17:00 Bugle Major

BUGLE MAJOR showed useful form in France when trained by Pascal Bary, producing one of his best efforts when third in a listed event at Deauville in November. He was well below that form on his first start for Richard Hughes, but his latest run in the Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot was much more encouraging. The handicapper has given him a chance since then and the longer trip here will be in his favour, so Bugle Major could be worth chancing at rewarding odds.

17:30 Autumn War

AUTUMN WAR caught the eye on his penultimate outing at Newcastle before running another sound race to fill the runner-up spot at Haydock last time. He stuck to his task well to be beaten only two lengths on the last occasion, with the first two pulling well clear of the rest. Autumn War can race from the same mark here and it seems only a matter of time before he gets his head back in front, with the booking of William Buick also catching the eye at a track he rides particularly well.
