WINGS OF A DOVE had excuses when well held on her handicap debut at Royal Ascot and there are reasons to believe her reappearance fifth in a Listed event at Bath doesn’t flatter her (solid timefigure). This looks an excellent opportunity for her to get off the mark. Winnetka is preferred to Kath’s Toyboy for the forecast.
UNEXPECTED ARRIVAL left her debut well behind when only just losing out at Yarmouth two weeks ago and sets a clear standard. Chicanery arguably has the most potential in the field and is feared most.
BIG BOY BOBBY still didn’t look the finished article when runner-up at Nottingham a month ago and with headgear likely to help him in the finish, he looks the way to go. Junoesque is engaged to run here on Wednesday and demands respect as an in-form course specialist.
RAVENS ARK didn’t look to be fully applying himself at Sandown a fortnight ago, so cheekpieces go on and he possesses the ability to win from his current mark. Contingency Fee chases a superb five-timer and is hard to omit from calculations, with Kelmscott another to take seriously.
Michael Appleby has a good record with new recruits, so it could be worth chancing COBRA EYE – who was rated 40lbs higher at the start of last season. His stablemate Mostallim is also high on the shortlist under Oisin Murphy, while Thomas Lanfiere arrives at the top of his game having won three of his last four starts.
Not a strong race, so a chance is taken on DAY TRADER, who has yet to win a race. But, he did too much too soon in blinkers last time and with that equipment off, he will hopefully settle better this time. Rhyme Scheme and Pure Perfection head the opposition.
CAMERILY JOE has already showed much-improved form in just a couple of starts for this yard and this looks a good opportunity for him to quickly resume winning ways having only just failed off this mark at Yarmouth recently (due to go up 4lbs). Otago and Porterinthejungle both arrive in top form having won their last two starts, so rate the main threats.
