It’s probably worth taking a chance on PURPLE MOUNTAIN (NAP) bouncing back. She was too keen on heavy ground in a Grade 2 bumper at the Dublin Racing Festival when last seen, but she had looked like a nice prospect when landing a mares’ Listed bumper in good style on her previous run and she should benefit from a drop in class here. Skippin Court is one to consider for an in-form yard, while Hammersmith is a danger to all if he can reproduce his best form.
HALLOWED STAR was surely odds-against after winning his maiden to get into a 0-116, so connections are probably counting their blessings. He should take a great deal of beating on nice ground. Ashqar could be very dangerous, his former stablemate Varna Gold likely so too. Elsewhere, Nibiru is primed for connections who target the festival.
A case can be made for the majority of these, but the tentative vote goes to RUN FOR OSCAR who has fewer miles on the clock than most in here and arrives on the back of a career best effort. The Little Yank looks feasibly treated after his recent win and similar can be said for Arcadian Sunrise, who is on an upward curve at present.
A very competitive handicap where cases can be made for most of them, but Willie Mullins has a very strong hand here. Most roads lead back to Royal Ascot winner STRATUM off this mark, and he will be hard to beat. Stable companions Jazzaway and My Sister Sarah have obvious chances too, with Decor Irlandais possibly the each-way play.
He has not been quite able to fulfill his potential, but a fair opportunity has been found here for RUSSIAN DIAMOND to get off the mark over fences. Good juvenile hurdler Busselton gets the allowances here and might be able to shake him up most effectively of the others.
A high class contest on paper, with the knowledge that seeing the best of either Samcro or Battleoverdoyen is not a given. However, DARASSO is rock solid and a repeat of his win at Listowel would make him hard to beat if he turns out after his good Plate run. Phoenix Way is a lightly raced and interesting contender.
A typically competitive renewal of this race, but it might be worth siding with POPONG who gave the impression a step back up in trip would suit last time and she looks feasibly treated on some of her placed form in the last 12 months.
Sapphire Lady has made a solid start to life over fences and impressed with her jumping last time out. The reserve Jerandme would be interesting if he got a run and The Big Lense seemed to jump better on his return from a year off latest.
Nine previous winners makes this possibly the hottest July bumper in living memory. The way ASHROE DIAMOND bolted up at Wexford from a subsequent winner signifies that she could be anything and she gets the vote ahead of impressive Downpatrick winner Gris Majeur and impressive Tipperary winner Imperial Ruler.
