13:50 Goodwood – Just Hubert

I love Coeur de Lion but the fact he’s only finished eighth and ninth in his two races at Goodwood doesn’t bode well! That sent me back to Just Hubert, who won the race last year. He won it off 88 then and he’s back down to 87 this year. Leading conditional rider Ray Dawson claims 3lbs off his back too so I’ll side with Just Hubert.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

14:25 Goodwood – Tasman Bay

I don’t have a massively strong opinion and I don’t know where the handicapper has gotten a rating of 119 for Baaeed from. Khartoum could be overrated and he got beaten in a Listed race. Tactical was a decent horse back in his day. I’d maybe go with Tasman Bay. He was second last time out at Ascot over 1m 4f. He was second before that at Newmarket behind John Leeper. He is coming down in trip but he has been running in decent races.

15:00 Goodwood – Qaysar

I was swaying towards one in a high draw as I thought they’d be coming from the stand-side rail. That sent me towards Qaysar for Richard Hannon. The only worry I had was for a Hannon horse, he’s never ran him at Goodwood before. That could be a question mark as to why not.

15:35 Goodwood – Battaash

Battaash is helped by the lack of early speedsters Winter Power and the US raiders Maven and Que Amoro in the field. They took him on in the King’s Stand at Ascot and they burnt him out. From watching Battaash at Goodwood last year, I’m on board this time though. He doesn’t have to be as good as we was then. Even a dip in performance should still be good enough now.

16:00 Galway – Purple Mountain

Purple Mountain was due a bumper winner and I’m surprised she was beaten on her first start in December 2019. She bounced back and won at Killarney and Gowran Park in 2020. She was disappointing at Leopardstown in February but her bumper form is rock solid. She’s a good jumper and she’ll take all the beating.

16:30 Galway – Hallowed Star

Hallowed Star was quality at Roscommon earlier this month and if you look at his earlier maiden hurdle at Leopardstown in December 2020, there’s depth to it. He finished behind Wide Receiver, Decimation, Snake Oil and M C Muldoon. He looks a star.

17:00 Galway – Arcadian Sunrise

Tom Mullins runs Excelcius, who was a runaway winner in Killarney. Sean O’Keeffe takes the ride. One I would have fancied in Thursday’s Galway Hurdle had he got in was Arcadian Sunrise. He was really impressive at Punchestown in May. Ballyoisin runs after a long layoff, Willie Mullins runs Getaway Gorgeous and Ruaille Buaille. Plenty of chances there, but I’ll side with Arcadian Sunrise.

17:30 Galway – Stratum

My Sister Sarah is 100 per cent after running respectably earlier this week in the Connacht Hotel handicap behind Coltor. She has a definite chance. Stratum is in good form after winning at Royal Ascot. He was disappointing here last year but it was his first run of the season. He went from there to finish second at York in the Lonsdale. He’s in good order and a great state of mind. We haven’t seen French Made in a long time and she was a decent mare back in her day. Lynwood Gold will be an eye-catcher for many people after his run on Monday night where he didn’t come out of the stalls. His jumping form is inconsistent as well. Stratum is looking good and has course form so I’ll side with him.

18:05 Galway – Russian Diamond

Grand Bornand probably hasn’t lived up to expectations and Karl Der Grosse is a bit like the weather, he’s in and out. Emmet Mullins’ Russian Diamond is the one for me. He was eye-catching on his second run over fences at Punchestown in May, when fifth to Fan De Blues.

18:40 Galway – Darasso

I fancy Darasso. Luke Dempsey retains the ride for Joseph O’Brien. He won on him at Listowel in June and he’s been left on him after getting a good tune out of him when second at Tipperary earlier this month behind Sole Pretender.

19:10 Galway – Aramax

I like Aramax here and going up in trip will really suit him. Willie has three runners but I’m not sold on any of them to win.

19:45 Galway – Ashroe Diamond

Dani Barcelona is Dani California’s daughter but I’m all over Ashroe Diamond. She couldn’t have looked any better when she won at Wexford in May.

Ruby Walsh’s best bets:

13:50 Goodwood – Just Hubert
14:25 Goodwood – Tasman Bay
15:00 Goodwood – Qaysar
