13:50 Glen Again
ITV’s coverage Wednesday gets under way with this 1m 4f handicap. GLEN AGAIN is interesting here for Mark Johnston with Ryan Moore booked. The draw could be a little better, but my hope is lightly raced and at the right end of the handicap to still improve. Seems to go on any ground and stays well so have a few quid on each-way.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
14:25 Vadream
This is the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes over 7 furlongs and there is a huge field for this, which is unusual. VADREAM is the one I like here each-way for Jamie Spencer and Charlie Fellowes. The three-year-old is lightly raced and has mixed racing from 6 furlongs to 1m of late, but I suspect this trip will be ideal. Spencer has a good draw to work from and provided she doesn’t get boxed in, can come home fastest of all. She went well in soft in the Jersey Stake should the ground become testing.
15:00 Fearby
Now, we’ve got the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes for youngsters over 5 furlongs. Conditions won’t be an issue for FEARBY, who could provide Ed Bethell with a huge Glorious Goodwood success. The colt has won at Wetherby and Sandown, and has a rating already. That puts him bang in the mix despite, obviously, being open to improvement after just three starts. PJ McDonald takes the ride here, which is a plus.
15:35 Snow Lantern
This is the big one, the Group 1 Sussex Stakes over 1m. Poetic Flare can clearly win, but SNOW LANTERN is a sound each-way bet against the favourite for Richard Hannon and Jamie Spencer. The Coronation Cup runner-up came good last time in the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket and going conditions hold no fears for her. She is improving all the time now she settles and, while Sean Levey missing her is annoying, hopefully Spencer can get the job done.
16:10 Anadora
This is a conditions stakes for two-year-olds over 5 furlongs. ANADORA was far from disgraced behind the useful Sandrine in the Albany at Royal Ascot, and this should be very winnable for Kevin Ryan and Kevin Stott. If it comes up testing, it’s a bonus that she’s already proven she can go over 6 furlongs and she should run right to the line.
16:45 Wait For The Lord
We have a handicap here over 1m 2f. WAIT FOR THE LORD is down in trip a little and must have each-way claims for the legend David Elsworth and Dougie Costello.
17:20 Be Prepared
Finally, this is a handicap over 7 furlongs. BE PREPARED is not a handicap snip, but might give John Bridger a great run at Goodwood with Kieran O’Neill getting the chance to shine. The horse has been in fab form.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
