15:55 Musselburgh – Sherdil

The betting will tell us plenty about this newcomers maiden event, but Karl Burke’s entry SHERDIL looks bred for this his initial test of speed being by former King’s Stand Stakes runner-up Dandy Man out of a Dark Angel mare. Richard Fahey’s newcomers are always respected here, and a market check is strongly advised.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

16:10 Pontefract – Regal Reality

Following two runs at Ascot in the Queen Anne Stakes and Summer Mile, Sir Michael Stoute’s charge REGAL REALITY takes a steep drop in grade here and as long is there isn’t too much rain beforehand, the son of Intello should record his first success since running away with the Group Three Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury 12 months ago. A never-nearer seventh in the Royal Hunt Cup when he had to come from a long way back and weave his way through the dense traffic, Brunch looks the logical forecast call.

16:20 Musselburgh – Overwrite

There should be plenty of pace on here and if Mark Johnston’s top weight OVERWRITE can sit just off the speed, he should play a major role in this competitive event. Not disgraced in a hot race at Newmarket last week, this drop to Class Four should prove much more up his street on ground he adores and the four-year-old gets the vote over Six Strings, as well as his three-year-old stablemate Silvestris.

16:45 Musselburgh – Come Quick

Despite running freely, Atomic Lady hosed up at York over 6 furlongs, so this drop in trip shouldn’t prove a problem and the hat-trick seeking daughter of Kodiac rates a big player here. COME QUICK is also dropping in yardage after blatantly not getting home over further at two stiff tracks – Hamilton and Carlisle. This should be a much more suitable location and a mark of 75 looks very fair.

17:15 Musselburgh – Glory Fighter

This £25,000 contest looks by far the most competitive event on the card with no less than six course and distance winners in the 15-strong field. Marginal preference is for one of those specialists in the form of the top weight GLORY FIGHTER.

Although he was only sixth of eight last time out at Chester, the Iain Jardine runner was only beaten a shade under two lengths. With the forecast for showers, his ability to act on a range of ground is a plus and he is fairly drawn to boot.  The equally well drawn Abel Handy and consistent Never Dark are feared.

17:45 Musselburgh – Candescence

Rising Star showed that her turn was just around the corner with a brace of fair runs at Pontefract and Newmarket and this lightly raced sort should go well again. However, the step back up to a sharp mile could see the frustrating Mark Walford’s CANDESCENCE return to the winner’s enclosure. The daughter of Power just got tapped for toe in a competitive fillies’ handicap at York last time out and is worth another chance here.

18:15 Musselburgh – Eton College

I was seriously annoyed when I missed the four-year-old ETON COLLEGE winning over course and distance in May at a double figure price and back down to a mark only 1lb higher, I suspect this race will be run to suit for him.

I Am A Dreamer is becoming dangerously well handicapped, even more so here with Oisin McSweeney taking a further 7lbs off. But, 6 furlongs on fast ground is more his make-up, which makes the prominently racing and well drawn Be Proud a bigger danger as long as he traps out in alert fashion from his rails’ slot draw.

18:40 Musselburgh – Glasses Up

Euro Implosion keeps on doing just enough to win and arrives here seeking a four timer having gone up from a mark of 59 to 69, so there could well be more in the tank. However, this looks a significantly deeper race and I really like the look of GLASSES UP, who looked badly in need of a stiffer test of stamina after being caught flat footed in a fair 10-furlong handicap at Ayr last time out. The chestnut gelding is certainly bred to appreciate this stamina test and looks solid each-way value over the likes of Keith Dalgleish’s charge and the progressive Hint of Stars.
