13:20 – Pulcheria

PULCHERIA was strong in the betting ahead of her debut at Leicester last month, but she ran as if needing the run for fitness and experience, finishing last of the three runners. She looks sure to do better with that outing under her belt and could be worth another chance for the in-form Charlie Appleby, who is seeking his third success in this novice event since 2016.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

13:55 – Ehraz

EHRAZ shaped with plenty of encouragement when second on his debut at Newmarket two weeks ago, showing useful form to be beaten only two lengths. He was held up in the early stages and made a striking move into contention entering the final two furlongs before appearing to finish with running left (not unduly punished). He is likely to make significant improvement with that experience under his belt and rates very much the one to beat in this maiden.

14:30 – Blow Your Horn

BLOW YOUR HORN returned to form when third on his latest outing at Newcastle, passing the post three lengths behind the winner and looking unlucky not to finish closer after being left with too much to do. Still relatively unexposed at two miles, he is only 2 lb higher in the weights here and remains a horse to be interested in, with the booking of champion jockey Oisin Murphy also catching the eye.

15:00 – Lights On

LIGHTS ON ran out an impressive winner of a listed race at Pontefract earlier this month, her third win from her last four starts. She forged clear in the final two furlongs to win by 10 lengths, looking full value for a smart effort, even if the form is hard to weigh up (her only serious rival was well below form). She looks a typical improver for the Sir Michael Stoute yard and is fancied to take the next step up the ladder in her stride to follow up in this Group 3.

15:35 – Valyrian Steel

VALYRIAN STEEL appeared to have a bit left in the locker when successful on his latest outing at Kempton, taking a while to get going before staying on strongly to run down one who enjoyed the run of the race. He still didn’t look the finished article either, which is hardly surprising given that it was just the sixth start of his career. With further progress on the cards in this more competitive environment, he is fancied to defy a 6 lb rise in the weights to complete his hat-trick.

16:10 – Jawwaal

JAWWAAL arrives here in a rich vein of form after back-to-back wins at Doncaster, winning narrowly in June before defying a 2 lb higher mark to follow up in good style three weeks ago. He has looked better than ever and still promises to have more to offer at this trip, with his record at five furlongs now standing at four wins from eight starts. He seems sure to give another good account in his hat-trick bid, for all that this will be tougher from a career-high mark.

16:40 – Passional

PASSIONAL could be the way to go in a tricky finale. She was slightly disappointing on her most recent start at Doncaster, but there is no doubt she is on a good mark judged on the pick of her form, still only 1 lb higher than when filling the runner-up spot on her penultimate outing at Yarmouth. That form is working out well (the winner has won again since), so Passional could be worth siding with to resume winnings ways under leading apprentice Marco Ghiani.
