Horse Racing Tips: Matt Chapman’s best bets for a bumper Saturday of ITV Races

MC YeeeHaaa is getting stuck into plenty of class Flat racing across the tracks on July Cup day.

York 13:45 – Eagleway (E/W)

A crazy day of racing on ITV gets under way with this handicap over 1m. EAGLEWAY should have eachway claims here for David O’Meara and Lewis Edmunds. My selection is proven in soft ground at this trip and was far from disgraced at Newcastle last time. His run when second in the Victoria Cup at a huge price was excellent and he gets this extra furlong no problem at all.

NEW TO PADDY POWER

Newmarket 14:05 Samoot

This is a handicap for fillies over 7f. SAMOOT is probably the one to beat here for William Buick and Sir Michael Stoute. The lightly raced filly ran a cracker at Royal Ascot when second in the Sandringham Stakes and she will surely prefer the slightly better conditions here. The drop from 1m to 7f is no problem and I suspect she will be hard to stop.

York 14:20 – Fujaira Prince

Now a Group 3 over 1m6f. It will take a huge effort after a layoff, but I’ll go with FUJAIRA PRINCE for Roger Varian and Andre Atzeni. The seven-year-old is very lightly raced so should be ready enough when he gets the chance to show us what he can do. His wins at Ascot and York last season were terrific and he ended up with a fine third behind Trueshan in the Long Distance Cup at Ascot. Hukum is clearly the one to beat.

Newmarket 14:40 – Royal Fleet

Another handicap here this time over 1m. Few are going to oppose ROYAL FLEET who might be a Group performer masquerading as a handicapper in this. The Dubawi colt won well on debut at Kempton and then looked most progressive at Yarmouth last time. Everything is set for a big run for Charlie Appleby and William Buick once again.

Ascot 15:00 – Sir Busker

This is the Group 2 Summer Mile over, surprisingly, 1m. A really competitive renewal. SIR BUSKER needs a decent pace to run at but he really deserves to win a classy prize like this. The William Knight trained gelding is ridden by Callum Shepherd and comes into this on the back of a fine third place behind Palace Pier in the Queen Anne. My only worry is whether he will be as good on the round course. But if he is he has strong place claims at least.

Newmarket 15:15 – Native Trail

This is the Group 2 Superlative for juveniles over 7f. NATIVE TRAIL lacks experience but he could be very good for Charlie Appleby and William Buick. The Oasis Dream off spring was clearly expected to go well on debut as he went off at 8-11 and did not disappoint. He wasn’t the most expensive buy ever so he looks well bought and it will be interesting to see if any money comes for him on track.

Ascot 15:35 – Tis Marvellous (E/W)

A handicap here over 5f. Wow this is hard! I’ll take a chance eachway with TIS MARVELLOUS, who has always been held in the highest regard by Clive Cox. He’s dropped down the weights a little bit now and a mark of 101 might be workable under Kieran Shoemark. Has a third place in the King’s Stand of 2020 to his name.

Newmarket

Newmarket 15:50 – Kimifive (E/W)

Big betting heat here in the Bunbury Cup Handicap over 7f. As always a tough heat to sort out. I’m interested in KIMIFIVE eachway here for Joseph Tuite and young Cieren Fallon. Ideally this horse probably wants 6,5f, but he can certainly mix it with these over this trip and he has some decent big field handicap form. A mark of 91 is not impossible.

York 16:05 – Winter Reprise (E/W)

A big handicap here in the John Smith’s Cup over an extended 1m2f. Hugely competitive. At a huge price I’ll take a chance eachway with WINTER REPRISE for David Menuisier and Jason Watson. I’m not certain if he’s capable of running to a mark of 98 on what I have seen so far, but he’s suited to the distance and going and his trainer is a decent one. If you don’t go for one at a big price you never have a big priced winner!

Newmarket 16:25 – Starman

Now the major Group 1 of the day in the Group 1 July Cup over 6f. A terrific renewal. STARMAN looked a star on seasonal debut at York when smashing up Nahaarr and Oxted. Tom Marquand takes over for Ed Walker and I don’t take it as too much of a bad sign Oisin Murphy has ditched the colt for Dragon Symbol as he has a connection to the latter having bought the horse. Starman has only been beaten once in five starts and that was in soft ground. Conditions here are ideal.

York 16:40 – Que Amoro

Listed company here with the City of Wall Stakes over 5f. If QUE AMORO is going to come back to his best it’s likely to be at this track. The Nunthorpe second would prefer better ground but he’s very speedy on a going day and loves this track. York is his place so he has eachway claims at least for Paul Mulrennan and Michael Dods.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
