Flaming Rib drops in grade and should have a big run in him on his nursery debut, with Maybury and Ernie’s Valentine also warranting a close look. HAYMAKER may have a bigger run in him now upped to 6f for the first time and his latest Wetherby third looks a solid piece of form.
In this race last year, Damned Elusive’s half-sister Table Mountain was transformed with the same step up in trip but found that a rapidly improving runner of Sir Mark Prescott’s was too good for her. The same plot may well unfold today now that Damned Elusive is faced by the hat-trick seeking, Prescott-trained ALERTA ROJA. A big swing in the weights gives Lawmans Blis a big chance to turn the tables on Alerta Roja from Yarmouth but that’s in theory and the selection’s strength in the finish that day suggests that she can win again.
Isla Kai may be able to confirm Doncaster placings with Beau Jardine despite a 12lb turnaround in the weights. Rebel Territory can continue on his upward curve and go well but ZOFFARELLI was a shade unfortunate upped to 1m for the first time nine days ago and he can make amends today.
She is the only maiden in the line-up but there is a good chance we are yet to see the best of GWENHWYVAR, who probably would have preferred a stronger gallop when fourth over 1m2f here on her handicap debut and can easily be excused her subsequent defeat in a Group 2 at last month’s Royal meeting. She gets the nod ahead of recent Newbury winner Garden Paradise.
Naval Commander with his potential moving up in trip is greatly respected but this may go to WITHOUT REVENGE who showed up well over C&D at the Royal meeting. They are by no means the only ones in calculations, though, with Data Protection narrowly preferred among the rest.

Dark Shift was sent off favourite for a traditionally hot 3yo handicap at York last month and although he failed to fire, he could yet prove well treated back on slower ground. Bernardo O’Reilly should be arriving on the scene late but CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD is still of interest on last season’s form and he can show the benefit of his recent return to action.
Mykonos St John was in superb form on AW surfaces in May and will be dangerous if able to continue the good work back on turf but low-mileage 4yo FFION (nap) was nudged up only 2lb for her very creditable second at Royal Ascot last month and, with a good 3lb claimer booked, could be hard to beat in these calmer waters. Bonneval and Soaring Star are others with appealing claims.
