13:00 Sound Reason
SOUND REASON has progressed with each start this season, winning back-to-back races at Newcastle and Beverley then losing little caste in defeat when a close-up third at Redcar last month. He was beaten only by a couple of improvers on that occasion and, as the sole three-year-old in the line-up, he looks sure to go well again. Gunnerside continues to go from strength-to-strength himself and is feared most, ahead of the returning Saras Hope.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
13:35 Fall Of Rome
For one reason or another FALL OF ROME was below form when only third at Goodwood last month, but he had shaped with plenty of promise when runner-up to last Saturday’s Railway Stakes winner Go Bears Go, and has since undergone a gelding operation. He is much better judged on his previous form and this extra furlong will suit, so he could take care of some appealing newcomers, headed by Jazz Club and Green Team.
14:10 Tawaareq
TAWAAREQ benefited from the step up in trip when first past the post at Doncaster (subsequently disqualified having bumped into the second). There should be plenty more to come from now over this trip and is taken to make amends up only 2 lb in the weights. Side Shot is steadily progressive, and this drop back in trip shouldn’t be a problem given the speed he showed at Chester, while Jaramillo had excuses at Salisbury.
14:45 La Pulga
This has the makings of a hot novice and LA PULGA, who is bred to be sharp, created a good impression when making a winning debut at Sandown over this trip last month. He showed greenness that day and looks a sure-fire improver now, so is taken to defy a penalty and maintain his unbeaten record. Modern Games and Lelabad are intriguing newcomers, while Nuance and Triple Time both made really encouraging starts and should have plenty more to offer over this extra furlong.
15:20 Alphonse Karr
ALPHONSE KARR ran well in a three-year-old only event on his handicap debut at Windsor 17 days ago, leaving the impression that this mark won’t by beyond him, and he makes appeal now taking on his elders for the first time in handicap company, especially as he probably hasn’t shown all he has to offer yet. Stone Soldier posted a good third here last time and is respected from the same mark, with Thirsk-scorer Cassy O completing the shortlist.

15:55 Chalk Stream
CHALK STREAM didn’t show a great deal on his first three starts but was much improved when making a winning handicap debut at Leicester last month in good style. He was denied only by a progressive type having failed to settle at this course last time and, with more to come up in trip, he makes plenty of appeal in his bid to regain the winning thread. The rest can all have a case made for them, but Doctor Parnassus and Albert Camus look the most formidable opponents.
16:30 Lucky Draw
LUCKY DRAW was far too good for Steel An Icon at Lingfield in May and had excuses when collared late at Carlisle the following week. She can confirm those placings here and thwart her old rival’s bid for a five-timer. If the aforementioned pair get into a pace duel, Flower of Scotland is the likeliest to capitalise.
