Triple chase winner Ballymoy is the class act in this line-up and had perhaps been softened up by a battle with his main market rival before succumbing to the late thrust of Premier d’Troice at Newton Abbot this month. He can gain his revenge on that rival today but lightly raced 7yo THE BULL McCABE won twice over hurdles here last season and gets the nod in the hope his jumping is more fluent than on last month’s chasing debut.

Course specialist Atlantic Storm is in good form and seems very likely to play a significant role but the suggestion is SCARDURA, who made a very promising start to his chasing career in the early part of last season and showed enough when last in action to suggest he’s back on track now. El Borracho won on his recent chasing debut and is also considered.
18:30 Chives (NAP)
Drumlee Watar drew clear to open his account over 3m2f on soft ground at Newton Abbot a week ago and could quite easily have more to offer but he shapes very much as though stamina is his strong suit, so today’s drop back in trip might catch him out. Preference is for CHIVES (nap), who only scrambled home by a short head in a Class 5 event on last month’s handicap debut but can probably improve again.
19:00 Shortcross Storm
Although he hasn’t always looked straightforward SHORTCROSS STORM has done really well since blinkers were applied and his front-running style will put pressure on the jumping of the chasing newcomers. Despite his rise up the weights, he should go well again and is preferred to Authorizo and Saintbury Lady.

Butte Montana posted a sound effort when second at Uttoxeter this month and is respected but that form doesn’t set a daunting standard for hurdling debutant SAN FERMIN, who made a very promising start to his rules career in bumpers this year.

The newcomer Percy Pi is respected but this may be between two with previous form with OCEAN HEIGHTS taken to get off the mark at his fourth attempt by beating previous winner Ultimate Fame.
