A few of these come into the race in good heart including Inner Circle and Lady Monica who are both entitled to go close. Iva Reflection is another worthy of respect having fallen to a favourable mark but this could be the day POUR LA VICTOIRE records his 11th course victory. There have been possible excuses for this last two efforts over different trips here and he looks nicely treated on his third in a big field over C&D in May.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
13:30 – Chief of Staff
An uncompetitive maiden in which Miquelon and Touchwood have the form to go close. However, after a gelding operation and with cheekpieces now added, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see CHIEF OF STAFF take a significant step forward. He is certainly bred to be better than he has shown in his first two starts.
14:00 – Almadrina
The likes of Dr Jekyll and He’s Our Star are capable of making an impact but this may lie between a couple of unexposed 3yos. Kartvelian has winning form here and has been shaping as though this step up to 1m will suit but it’s hard to get away from ALMADRINA following up her convincing success over C&D seven days ago. A 6lb penalty is unlikely to stop her if she’s in the same mood. The 5yo Six Til Twelve also carries one, having won in good style at Lingfield yesterday.
14:30 – Spanish Persuader
Several of these have stamina to prove and others are out of sorts. SPANISH PERSUADER hinted at better to come when out of the weights at Goodwood and this is more suitable than a subsequent 1m3f defeat on soft. Winter Snowdrop would have major claims on her 2020 form but has been out of sorts this year and perhaps Beau Geste will prove the main danger.
15:05 – Her Way
The market may indicate what is expected of Bookmark on her handicap debut after 222 days off but a few of these come into the race in good form including HER WAY, who did it well when getting off the mark at Chepstow eight days ago. She has a 6lb penalty to carry here but may have more to offer now that she has found her feet.
15:35 – Granary Queen
The return to this venue should be to the advantage of Run Forrest Run, while Covert Mission would have a solid chance if stepping forward from his promising stable debut, but GRANARY QUEEN is the pick. She clearly likes it here having won one of her two starts over C&D and gone down by only a neck in the other.
16:10 – Shamshon
The last three runnings of this race have gone to a 3yo so C&D winner Aish is respected, especially if the ground remains on the quick side, but this may be one for the senior brigade courtesy of SHAMSHON (nap). He holds his form really well for a 10yo and a C&D record of 21323 shows how effective he is under these conditions.
