Kingboard Star created a good impression when making a winning debut at Bath three weeks ago. He is bred to be sharp – he is by Cotai Glory out of a mare who won over five furlongs as a juvenile – and he knew his job on debut having fetched 130,000 guineas at the breeze-up sales. Kingboard Star always travelled well at Bath and won in a good time with a bit to spare, so he looks up to defying a penalty.

13:45 Woven
Woven made an encouraging start for Michael Dods when finishing runner-up on his reappearance at Redcar, and he backed up that positive impression when a close-up fourth at York last month. He remains 3 lb lower than his last winning mark, and his hold-up style is often an advantage on this stiff track, so he should give another good account in a race that looks set to be run at a strong gallop.
14:20 Khuzaam
Khuzaam disappointed behind Palace Pier at Sandown last time but he could be a different proposition back on an artificial surface. Khuzaam has a rock-solid record on the all-weather, finishing first or second on all eight starts on the surface, and his victory in the Mile on AW Finals Day represents the best form on offer. He steps back markedly in trip but this is a stiff six furlongs and he should cope with the test.
14:55 Zeeband
Zeeband progressed well in staying handicaps last season, winning at Thirsk and Ripon before putting up an even better effort in defeat in a red-hot affair at York. He shaped with clear promise when a close-up third on his reappearance at Newmarket last month and he ought to come on for that run, while the step up to two miles could bring about further improvement. The application of a visor could also help.
15:30 Dubious Affair
Dubious Affair enjoyed an excellent campaign after joining Charlie Fellowes last season, winning her first three starts for the yard before putting up even better efforts in defeat in a listed race at Newmarket and, most notably, the Park Hill at Doncaster. She looked unlucky not to win the Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot on her recent reappearance but she can gain a measure of compensation off the same mark.

16:05 Hasty Sailor
Hasty Sailor shaped as if in need of the run when third on his reappearance at Doncaster three weeks ago – he faded after leading briefly a couple of furlongs out – and he could do better with that outing under his belt. He progressed with each run during a light three-year-old campaign, signing off with a win on his handicap debut at Lingfield, and it would be little surprise if he had more to offer, keeping in mind his trainer Sir Michael Stoute’s excellent record with older horses.
16:40 Red Mirage
Red Mirage has made a superb start to his career, winning all three outings. He was especially impressive last time on his handicap debut at Kempton where he made a mockery of his opening mark, impressing with how readily he settled matters when quickening two furlongs out. He has gone up 11 lb in the weights but may still be a step ahead of the handicapper and looks a colt to follow.
17:10 Vanity Affair
The progressive Vanity Affair completed the hat-trick at Nottingham last month, showing his versatility having won twice on the all-weather, and a 7 lb rise in the weights should not be enough to stop the winning sequence. He was impressive at Nottingham, where he pulled three and a half lengths clear, and the style of success indicates there could be even more to come. It’s worth noting he was successful over this course and distance on his penultimate start.
