Newcastle 1:45 – Mondammej

Mondammej is a very talented individual but he’s becoming a little harder to predict. However, there is no doubting he is still very well handicapped on a mark of just 87. It was a massive run after a slow start in the 5f ‘Dash’ at Epsom, and in this handicap the leaders should start to come back to him a little easier than on the downhill track there. He has a nice stalls draw in six and can pick these up late in the day.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Newmarket 2:05 – Cachet

Cachet looked very good on her racecourse debut at Newmarket over the Rowley Mile and she now switches her attentions to the July course which will hold no fears. Her Royal Ascot performance when fifth to Sandrine in the Group 3 Albany Stakes was pretty smart under tough conditions. She can stamp her class on this field and give her rider a welcome return to the spotlight in Listed company.

Newcastle 2:20 – Khuzaam

Khuzaam looks to be an out-and-out natural on a synthetic surface but not as adaptable when switched back onto the turf, admittedly in very tough company. It won’t have been easy for Jim Crowley to pick one in this with three runners in the same ownership – but he’s in sparkling form at the moment and has made a lot of right calls. He will side with Khuzaam, who is officially top rated by a couple of pounds from the old boy, Brando.

Newmarket 2:40 – Desert Encounter

Desert Encounter has been a wonderful servant to connections down the years and he can be relied upon to give his running on most occasions. Logician is trying to get back on track after a fair return 42 days ago but he just didn’t go with that old fluency. He’s going to be short and he’s worth taking on with the old boy Desert Encounter, who as we know will be picking up the pieces late in the day.

Newcastle 2:55 – Zeeband

Zeeband was starting to build himself a fairly decent profile going up through the grades as he stepped up in distance. Connections feel that recently he has been keeping a little bit back for himself and so they reach for the visor to make him focus as well as stepping him up in distance. He’s drawn one off the paint and so at least will get a ground-saving run down the fence, which can swing this contest in his favour.

Newmarket 3:15 – Duke of Hazzard

Duke of Hazzard has had no luck whatsoever on his last runs, getting no run at Epsom and then backing up fairly quickly in a small-field contest at York that didn’t play to his strengths at all. He needs to be held up and played late and has jockey of the moment Shane Kelly on board who is perfect for his hold-up style off racing. Paddy is underestimating him in the market.

Newcastle 3:30 – Trueshan

It will be some performance if Trueshan can carry top weight despite connections asking the young apprentice Rhys Clutterbuck to take off a very valuable 5lbs. However, ask yourself how much weight do you think he carries every day on the gallops at home? I’m sure it’s more than 9st 13lbs. He can latch onto the bit a little and the biggest test for this young rider is to get him settled and into a rhythm on what has to be his biggest ride to date. Good luck Rhys!

Curragh 3:45 – Mojo Star

Mojo Star ran a massive race in the Epsom Derby when completely overlooked in the market at around 50/1. Just when the eventual winner Adayar was making his challenge, Mojo Star was momentarily trying to squeeze through a very tight gap and that would have hindered his momentum in the latter stages, when the winner zipped up the fence. Jockey Rossa Ryan returns to race riding and what a massive return to action this would be for him as he was going great prior to taking a tumble and also having appendicitis.
