Paddy Power pundits including Ruby Walsh have delivered their top tip for today’s feature race – and we’re paying four places if you fancy an each-way punt.
Paddy Power: “Stradivarius can’t be improving and he’s been beating the same horses year in, year out. The one I’m going to take a chance with is EMPEROR OF THE SUN. I hope the step up in trip brings out the required improvement in this lad.”
ASCOT TIPS: PADDY POWER’S ASCOT TIPS INCLUDING A 25/1 PUNT
Ruby Walsh: “The rain won’t help Stradivarius. He’s a seven-year-old colt and is big and heavy without a prep run. He hasn’t run since beating Ocean Wind in April and I’d love to have seen him on the track more recently.
Jason Weaver: “STRADIVARIUS needs no introduction whatsoever and seems to be as good as ever at the age of seven. If the rain arrives Alan King’s Trueshan could possibly make the race more exciting, but he just lacks the change of gear late on of Stradivarius.”
Matt Chapman: “STRADIVARIUS has won the last three Gold Cups as most of you will know and I fully expect him to make it four. He has a turn of foot that sets him apart from other stayers and conditions will be ideal.”
Mick Fitzgerald: “This is a tough one to call because I think the rain will play a huge part if the ground is very soft. I can see Trueshan getting a lot closer to Stradivarius. John and Thady Gosden are trying to do something that the mighty Yeats did and win a fourth Gold Cup. STRADIVARIUS is the best stayer around and should win.”
