There’s rain forecast for day three at Royal Ascot and the predicted showers could be very heavy and could turn Thursday into a real stamina test.

14:30 – Cadamasto

If the rain arrives the opening 5f Norfolk Stakes for the two-year-olds will take a bit of getting. The American-trained horses normally have a huge advantage with their speed from the stalls, but if the ground is slow that could level the playing field.

CADAMASTO won nicely at Dundalk and it’s interesting that he has not run since, so that fills me with confidence. Clive Cox runs Instinctive Move who was impressive at Bath. I’ll side with Cadamosto with the rain around.

15:05 – Mohaafeth

Connections took this horse out all the Derby because of the soft ground and it would be a real shame were he not to run in this if the rain arrives. If it stays away, MOHAAFETH should win. One Ruler was just behind Mac Swinney on heavy ground at Doncaster as a two-year-old and if Mohaafeth is an absentee he can take advantage.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

15:40 – Noon Star

This filly got narrowly beaten by Snowfall at York but it was no disgrace in only just losing to that superstar filly after what we saw her do at Epsom. Eshaada is unbeaten in two runs and has stepped up in trip and does again here. She could be the improver and dangerous to dismiss but I am sticking with NOON STAR.

16:15 – Stradivarius

This is a tough one to call because I think the rain will play a huge part if the ground is very soft. I can see Trueshan getting a lot closer to Stradivarius. John and Thady Gosden are trying to do something that the mighty Yeats did and win a fourth Gold Cup. STRADIVARIUS is the best stayer around and should win.

ALL THE MUST-KNOWS FOR ROYAL ASCOT 2021

17:00 – Aerion Power (each way)

Horoscope for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore has form on heavy ground, so he is going to be high on anybody’s shortlist. He’ll have plenty of supporters in this handicap and has run in big-field races previously winning a maiden at the Curragh and finishing a good third in a handicap at the same track.

Raadobarg is proven on soft and could be an improver and his rating is climbing all the time. Royal Pleasure has been running on the all-weather but could be well handicapped still. AERION POWER is one I really like for Sir Michael Stoute. He is a master trainer at bringing horses on and is my selection each way.

17:35 – Siskany

Charlie Appleby’s charge won at Sandown beating Surefire but Surefire is a lot better off at the weights now. SISKANY was so superior that day though that even a decent weight pull isn’t enough.

18:10 – Shelir

David O’Meara will have Shelmir primed after a good run at Epsom when he finished second on soft ground at this trip. He’s also run well at York on soft ground last October over a mile and looks good value in what could be a messy race.
