14:08 Dame Bianca
Dame Bianca produced her best effort yet when fitted with first-time blinkers at Brighton last time, not beaten far in third after launching a bold bid from the front. She is still relatively lightly raced and could take some catching if similarly bold tactics are employed.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
14:38 Rose Hip
Tom Marquand gets a fine tune out of Rose Hip and he registered a sixth success aboard the mare at Windsor last month. She was well on top at the finish, scoring by a length and a quarter, and a 4 lb rise in the weights should not prove beyond her with Marquand back in the saddle. Conditions will likely be quick at Salisbury on Sunday but that won’t be an issue for Rose Hip, who won three times last season on ground deemed good to firm or faster by Timeform.
15:08 Cardinal Rouge
There’s not much evidence in the formbook to go on here, with all but one of the runners making their debut, but Cardinal Rouge makes appeal on paper. Cardinal Rouge, a 70,000 guineas yearling purchase, is by Holy Roman Emperor and is closely related to a six-furlong juvenile winner, so there is speed in his pedigree. It’s also worth noting that his trainer Ralph Beckett has been going well with his two-year-olds.
15:38 Khaadem
Khaadem looked a potential star when winning the Stewards’ Cup a couple of seasons ago, but he has yet to hit the heights expected of him. He has certainly been disappointing on both starts this season, but the testing ground at Haydock offers a legitimate excuse for his latest effort and he will relish the return to this sounder surface. He was fourth in the Diamond Jubilee and July Cup last season and should prove far too good for his rivals if reproducing that sort of form.
16:08 Sunset Bay
Sunset Bay was seemingly handed a stiff enough opening mark based on what she achieved in maiden company but she ran well on her handicap debut at York last month, shaping better than the result would suggest. She was only sixth in that competitive affair but appeared to find a mile on testing ground putting too much of an emphasis on stamina. The drop back to seven furlongs will suit and she remains open to improvement.

16:38 Deep Snow
Deep Snow is lightly raced for a four-year-old but she has run well on both outings and should prove difficult to beat on her return. She was an encouraging second at Newbury on her only start as a juvenile, splitting a couple of useful fillies, and she didn’t need to match that level to get off the mark in a much weaker affair at Ripon last summer. The step up in trip is a slight concern on her return from another long layoff – she is not bred to want this far – but she sets a good standard and should be too good for these.
17:10 George Bancroft
George Bancroft offered little in three starts in maiden/novice company at seven furlongs and a mile last year, but he could prove a different proposition now going handicapping up in trip. George Bancroft is bred to thrive over middle-distances – he is by Derby winner Australia and out of a mare placed at a mile and a quarter – so it would be little surprise were he to take a big step forward now tackling this more suitable test. He makes his return to action with trainer Roger Varian in superb form.
