13:25 – Mellow Magic
MELLOW MAGIC has been knocking on the door in good-looking races so far this season and this looks an excellent opportunity for her to open her account. She has been beaten only by a couple of useful sorts the last twice, doing nothing wrong at Newmarket last time but leaving the impression she has the ability to win a race of this nature. Mellow Magic is from a family which got better with experience and it will be disappointing if she can’t get her head in front here.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
14:00 – White Jasmine
George Boughey’s two-year-olds continue in fine form and WHITE JASMINE shaped with plenty of promise when finishing second to a Royal Ascot-bound filly on debut at Wolverhampton. White Jasmine is from a smart sprinting family – she is a sister to Log Out Island and Khaadem – and showed plenty of ability amidst greenness, running on to take second close home. She looks a sure-fire improver now and it will take an above-average newcomer to topple her.
14:35 – Albahr
There are some interesting newcomers on paper, notably 350,000 guineas purchase King of York and Tropez Power, and the market will reveal more about their chances, but experience often counts for plenty in these events and ALBAHR offered plenty to work on at York on debut. He stayed on well without being knocked about to take third close home over six furlongs, but there is plenty of stamina in his pedigree, and he promises to be well suited by this step up in trip. That form is solid enough and he can make his experience count.
15:10 – Chichester
CHICHESTER failed to win for Sir Michael Stoute, but defied market weakness to open his account at the first attempt for new connections at Newcastle in April, and he has shaped well in defeat since, notably when finishing third in the ultra-competitive Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar last time. He shaped a little bit better than the result, too, not getting the clearest run two furlongs out, but stayed on well in the closing stages. The handicapper has left him on the same mark and another bold bid is expected.

15:45 – King Of Tsavo
KING OF TSAVO has a smart pedigree and showed much improved form to open his account on nursery debut at Kempton in December, making a mockery of his opening mark, and the manner in which he stretched clear in the closing stages suggests he has much more to offer. The handicapper has raised him 10 lb since, but that form has worked out well, and the rise is fully justified. The switch back to turf shouldn’t pose a problem and he looks a handicapper to keep on the right side.
16:20 – Soapy Stevens
SOAPY STEVENS was all the rage in the betting up against his elders when opening his account at Chester 11 days ago and did so with a bit in hand. He did well under the circumstances, forced wide on the turn when making his challenge but stayed on well and was comfortably on top at the line. The step up in trip is very much in his favour and he is preferred to both of his rivals who run under penalties.
16:55 – Madame Peltier
MADAME PELTIER has won three of her last five starts and could have more to offer judged by her latest success at Newbury. That was just her second start on turf and she produced a career-best effort to come home in authoritative fashion under this jockey, readily pulling clear of her rivals. A subsequent 6 lb rise is fair, and provided this doesn’t turn tactical, she should take plenty of beating.
