Renwick has worked his way back into form this spring and his recent Uttoxeter second came in a stronger race than this but it could be worth chancing WEST TO CROSSGALES. He doesn’t have a great strike-rate but is well handicapped on last summer’s placed form and might well have needed last month’s reappearance run. Lord Getaway is next on the list.

14:00 Check My Pulse (NAP)
Tardree was nicely in command in the closing stages of his recent chasing debut at Uttoxeter and remains unexposed under rules but today’s 12lb higher mark demands more from him. Preference is for CHECK MY PULSE (nap), who ran quite a bit better than he was entitled to on the figures when third in a recent Cartmel beginners’ chase and now makes his handicap chase debut.
14:35 Valupo
This might go to VALUPO, who greatly exceeded market expectations when placed in a big-field Navan maiden on his hurdling debut in March and, having subsequently joined Olly Murphy, has considerably potential for improvement. Peaked Too Soon was placed in two bumpers last autumn and is feared most but useful Flat-racer Awesomedude showed some hurdling ability last month, while Boltissime will be on the premises if able to bounce back from a disappointing run.
15:10 Hattaab
Robsam ran well in defeat over C&D last month and is still quite lightly raced. Some well-handicapped rivals lurk in the shadows and the pick of that contingent could be HATTAAB, who is well suited by this track and probably didn’t handle good to soft ground when pulled up last month after a break. Perfect Predator and Wishfull Dreaming are others to think about.
15:45 Lady In Hiding
We haven’t seen much of LADY IN HIDING since her Listed bumper third at Cheltenham in November 2019 and she made a very disappointing start to her hurdling career for Oliver Sherwood in the early part of this year. However, positives can be drawn from last month’s stable debut at Warwick and she is selected to exploit her lowly opening handicap mark. Irish point winner Present Storm is back up in trip after an encouraging stable debut over 2m here and is second choice. Sinndarella and Dry Ol’Party can also feature.

16:20 Kentucky Hardboot
We may not have seen the best of dual novice winner Timberman yet but KENTUCKY HARDBOOT was a pretty convincing winner of a Huntingdon maiden last month and might be the answer. Ballinsker has been given a good chance by the handicapper but needs to better his recent effort at Ludlow.
16:50 Begin The Luck
Handicap debutant Gerard Mentor looks interesting if judged on the form of his bumper debut, while it will be interesting to see whether Coral can stage a revival now back over hurdles for a new stable. However, the selection is BEGIN THE LUCK, who has already won twice over C&D this spring and might still be improving. Orchard Grove also makes the shortlist.
