17:25 Zlatan
Voltaic ran well over C&D last summer and could have a big run in him on his first start for Tony Carroll, while the unexposed Frozen Waters, Spirit Warning and Redgrave all have something to recommend them. ZLATAN hasn’t won for a while but he’s more than capable of going well at this level and he gets the tentative vote.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
18:00 Unspoken
Ralph Beckett continues in fine form and UNSPOKEN should be tough to beat under a penalty if reproducing the form shown when winning with something to spare on his recent debut at Nottingham. The main threat is likely to come from one of the newcomers, and the betting should be informative, although Asymmetric could be the pick of them ahead of Sir Henry Cotton. The in-form Michael Attwater saddled a 2yo newcomer to finish second at 50-1 recently so Rules Of Order shouldn’t be written off even if he’s a big price.
18:30 Be Prepared
Provided the visor works as well the second time, BE PREPARED has a good chance of following up his Salisbury success. Amathus is feared most, ahead of Iconic Knight. At likely bigger odds Edessann is quite interesting back on turf.
19:00 Bimble (NAP)
The Henry Candy-trained BIMBLE (nap) has respectable C&D form and looks a solid option. Second choice is Lovely Breeze, who may show the benefit of this drop in trip. Operatic is still unexposed and a few others also have possibilities.
19:30 Ravens Ark
Several have possibilities but the vote goes to RAVENS ARK, who showed a good attitude when beating a clear second at Brighton 17 days ago, and a 4lb rise for that success looks fair. Second choice is Monsaraz, who has raised his form to a new level on AW this year and is strongly respected back on turf in his bid to make it 4-5 for David Loughnane. Third on the list is recent hurdle winner Zuba, who was a good second over 1m6f here on his penultimate run.
20:00 Gal Wonder
The main form contenders are quite closely matched on the figures and it might be worth taking a chance with one of the striking newcomers. Sea Oscar cost 200,000euros as a yearling, but the vote goes to the Gosdens’ GAL WONDER, who is out of a very useful sister to a 1m Group 1 winner. Miss Scaletta and C&D winner Dawndiva are feared most in that order, though Cambridgeshire is respected and Kempton runner-up Model Actress looks interesting upped 2f in trip on her return.
20:30 Set Point
Love Is Golden has all the hallmarks of a tenacious Mark Johnston handicapper but he did have the run of things at Chester. Cases can be made for all his rivals, including SET POINT, who was one of the market principals in that Chester race and yet never looked happy on the track. Liverpool Knight’s third at Leicester is hard to knock and both Impulsive One and Rushmore are entitled to improve for going over 1m4f, so this is trappy.
