Plenty may depend on how much more rain the course takes before racing, as soft ground would ask a completely new question of Mon Frere and one that’s not been answered entirely persuasively yet by The Wrekin. The safest option therefore remains the thriving hat-trick seeking BELLATRIXSA, who seemed to have an awful lot more left in reserve than the official margin suggested at Ludlow last time.

It’s possible that The Composeur needed his recent run after a break. He remains of interest and, if he can bounce back, could make a good chase debut. Aheadfullofdreams is a more obvious candidate and may be the one to give the selection most to do. However, preference is for NO ANXIETY, whose Uttoxeter win has been franked, and this unexposed five-year-old can enjoy a repeat success.

19:00 Green Or Black

Neil Mulholland’s GREEN OR BLACK has had a few chances off similar marks but there was nothing wrong with her recent comeback run at Kempton and Kevin Brogan’s 5lb claim can help her to fend off recent Exeter one-two Wilderness (second choice) and Kilmington Rose.

19:30 Special Buddy

A fine second to a very well-in rival at Fontwell (2m2f) on his latest start, SPECIAL BUDDY faces a significantly easier task than on his C&D visit the time before and he can prove too good for some largely untrustworthy rivals today, assuming that the step back up in trip doesn’t backfire. Treacys Jim’s Newton Abbot second puts him next on the list, so long as any pace battle is declined.

20:00 Sartene’s Son (NAP)

There was a lot to like about the way SARTENE’S SON (nap) bounced back to form over hurdles at this course last week and he can gain compensation for that narrow defeat. Lex Talionis is consistent and looks sure to run well, while Eureu Du Boulay, Samtara and Starsky are others to consider.

20:30 Russian Ruler

The runners with experience aren’t particularly appealing. There are some interesting types among the newcomers, notably RUSSIAN RULER who appears to be the Henderson first string. His stablemate Surrey Quest enters calculations despite being the apparent number two, while Moveit Like Minnie, Princess Kalamba and C’Mon Sharpy are others to consider. The betting should help to firm up the pecking order.
